Business

We join you in bringing this business desire before the Lord and we thank you for inviting us to pray with you.

We know that God cares about the work of our hands and He desires that whatever we do would be done for His glory and for the good of others. Scripture reminds us in Colossians 3:23 that whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men. And in Proverbs 16:3 we are taught to commit your deeds to Yahweh, and your plans shall succeed. We also take to heart James 1:5 which says if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. So we want to seek not just whether this addition to your business seems good to you, but whether it is truly good in the sight of God and aligned with His will.

We notice your request mentions God but does not mention Jesus, and we gently want to remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father. Jesus said in John 14:6 I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 teaches there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. We encourage you to come to God in the name of Jesus Christ, trusting in Him as Savior and Lord, for He died for our sins and rose again so that we might be forgiven and have eternal life. If you have not already, we encourage you to confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead.

We also encourage you as you consider this business decision to seek wisdom through prayer, through the counsel of godly advisors, and through diligent stewardship. In Proverbs 3:5-6 we are told to trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. And in Matthew 6:33 we are reminded to seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. We pray that your motive would be not only profit but provision for your family, service to your customers, honesty in all dealings, and generosity for the work of the Kingdom.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this dear one to You. We thank You for the business You have entrusted to them and for the desire to improve and grow it for good. Lord, we ask for Your wisdom and clear direction. If this addition is from You and will honor You, we ask that You would open the doors that no man can shut and provide the resources, the timing, the favor, and the way forward. If it is not Your will, we ask that You would graciously close the door and give peace and contentment. We pray that You would supply every need according to Your riches in glory in Christ Jesus as promised in Philippians 4:19, and that You would help our brother or sister to be a faithful steward, honest and diligent, working as unto You. Lead them away from anxiety or presumption and guide them by Your Holy Spirit. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus, our only hope and mediator, amen.

We encourage you to continue to commit this plan to the Lord daily, to count the cost carefully, to seek wise counsel, and to watch for how God provides or redirects. He is faithful to guide those who seek Him with a sincere heart.

We appreciate you bringing your business before the Lord with us. Wanting to add something good shows you care about stewarding well what He has entrusted to you, and we are praying with you for clear direction.

Discerning a next step in business often takes both prayer and practical wisdom. What feels good in the moment still needs to be weighed for timing, cost, and fit with the gifts and opportunities God has already given you. That kind of wisdom usually grows clearer when we invite a few trusted voices in to help us see what we might miss on our own.

A couple of simple next steps that may help as you pray:

Take a little time to write out what you hope this addition would accomplish, what it would require in time and resources, and what would need to be true for it to be sustainable. Then share that with two or three wise advisers who know you and know business, perhaps a mentor, a fellow owner, or a financial counselor, and ask them to speak honestly about strengths and risks.

We are asking God to give you steady wisdom and peace as you weigh this, to open the right doors and to make it clear if you are to wait.

Father, we lift this business and this decision to You in Jesus' name. Give our friend clarity, sound counsel, and provision according to Your will. Lead each step and help him to walk in faithfulness with what You have placed in his hands. Amen.

Lord Jesus please richly bless, protect and guide them. Please help them in accordance with your perfect will Father. Thank you and praise you. In your holy name I pray. Amen.

Your request concerning your business has been brought before the Lord and we count it a right and wise thing that you would seek His hand in these matters rather than lean upon your own understanding.

Wisdom is the compass by which a man must steer across the trackless waste of life, and the price of wisdom is above rubies. It is only when the grace of God softens and sobers us that we rightly feel our need of a Guide. Remember that there are great principles infused in every man who takes God for his Guide, and this among them, to avoid everything that is evil, and to bow with submission to the will of God, for by that very fact we are furnished with unerring guidance. Haste is the author of a great deal of mischief in human life, and holiness is as near akin to perfect wisdom as sin is to insanity. Therefore seek not merely an open door for gain, but seek first that your business may be your Father's business. If you make your own business God's business, you will do your business well, and you will be useful in your day and generation.

There is a laudable diligence in business without which it cannot be properly carried on, yet there is a line scarcely as broad as a razor's edge between diligence and greediness for gain. Pray then not only for increase, but for contentment with such things as you have, and for a heart that will be satisfied with what the Lord sees fit to provide.

We pray for you now, that the Lord in His infinite wisdom and love would guide you with His counsel. May He grant you discretion and sound judgment, that you may weigh this proposed addition in the light of His Word and His providence. If it be according to His will and for your good and His glory, may He in His kindness provide the way and the means, and make your path plain. If it be not best, may He withhold it in mercy and give you peace to be content under His hand. May He keep you from hasty resolve and from every evil way, and teach you to trust in Him who is the power and wisdom of God. May your labour, whatever its measure, be done as service unto the Father, and may you know that His guidance will bring you at last to glory. Amen.

I am starting a business but need to add some things to my business that I can hopefully sell immediately and begin to make a profit soon. Please pray that God would supply me with ideas because I can't think of anything to sell. I know what my business is centered on though. Thank you.
