Broken Family

Disciple of Prayer
My wife (###) and I (###) have been separated 3 years. We have 2 children. She has also walked away from faith. Spiritual attacks seem constant.

We have heard your burden for your broken family and we stand with you in prayer together before our Father in Jesus name. Your separation of three years, your two precious children caught in the middle, and your wife walking away from faith is a deep sorrow and we grieve with you. We know the enemy seeks to destroy what God has joined together and to bring division and despair, but we also know our God is a God of restoration and hope.

We want to remind you of how God views your marriage. Marriage is a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman ordained by God. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate, Matthew 19:6. The Lord says He hates divorce, Malachi 2:16, and His desire is for reconciliation and oneness. We hear that you are still married though separated, and we strongly encourage you to continue to honor that covenant. The scripture says let the wife not depart from her husband and let the husband not leave his wife, and if she departs let her remain unmarried or be reconciled to her husband, 1 Corinthians 7:10-11. We encourage you not to pursue divorce or another relationship while you are still married, but to pursue reconciliation and to love your wife as Christ also loved the church and gave himself up for her, Ephesians 5:25. Even when she has walked away, your faithful Christlike love, prayer, forgiveness and patience can be a powerful testimony. We also urge you to remain pure during this separation and to flee any temptation toward adultery or fornication, for marriage is honorable and God will judge sexual immorality.

We are deeply concerned that your wife has walked away from faith. We pray earnestly for her return, for the Lord is not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance, 2 Peter 3:9. We pray that God will soften her heart, remove any blindness the enemy has placed, and draw her back to Himself, for if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation, 2 Corinthians 5:17.

You mention constant spiritual attacks and we do not take that lightly. Our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places, Ephesians 6:12. The adversary prowls around like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour, 1 Peter 5:8, but we have authority in Christ. We encourage you to put on the whole armor of God that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil, Ephesians 6:11, to submit therefore to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you, James 4:7, and to use the weapons of our warfare which are not of the flesh but mighty before God to the throwing down of strongholds, 2 Corinthians 10:4. Greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world, 1 John 4:4. We rebuke the enemy's work against your marriage, your wife, your children and your home, and we declare that no weapon formed against you will ultimately prevail when you abide in Christ.

We also noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ. We gently point this out because it is only by His name that we have access to God and it is only by His name that we are saved. Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. If you have not already, we encourage you to confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, for with the heart one believes resulting in righteousness and with the mouth one confesses resulting in salvation, Romans 10:9. It is through Jesus that our prayers are heard and our family can be truly restored.

We lift our hearts together with you in prayer.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We lift up this husband, his wife and their two children to Your throne of grace. Lord, You see this separation of three years, You see the pain, the loneliness and the weariness from constant spiritual battle. We ask You to have mercy and to heal this broken family. We pray You would convict and draw this wife back to Yourself, that You would open her eyes, restore her faith, and bring her to repentance and to a living relationship with Jesus. We pray You would protect her from deception and surround her with Your love.

Lord, we ask You to strengthen this husband to stand firm in faith, to be a godly leader and father who trains his children in Your ways. Give him wisdom, endurance, and unconditional love for his wife even in this painful season. Guard his heart and mind from discouragement and from any temptation, and help him to forgive as You have forgiven us. We pray for these two children, that You would guard their hearts, give them peace, and let them see Your faithfulness through their father.

We rebuke every spiritual attack against this home and we ask You to place Your hedge of protection around them. Clothe this husband in Your armor, fill him with Your Spirit, and let Your perfect love cast out fear. Lord, where there is division bring unity, where there is brokenness bring healing, and where there is distance bring reconciliation according to Your will. We trust that You are able to do far more than we can ask or imagine. We commit this marriage to You, believing that You are the God who restores. We pray all these things in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and Redeemer. Amen.

We have been sitting with your request and we hear how heavy this has been. Three years of separation is a long road to walk, and carrying that while loving your two children and watching your wife step away from faith would leave anyone feeling worn down and under attack.

What you describe as constant spiritual pressure makes sense to us. When a marriage is strained, it is not just the relationship that feels targeted, it is the heart itself. It is easy to close down or just try to survive day to day. We find that lasting restoration, when it is possible, does not come from trying harder in our own strength but from a steady surrender to God who can do what we cannot, and from allowing Him to keep our own hearts soft and trustworthy even while we wait.

One steady step that often helps in a long separation is to not carry this alone. If you do not already have it, we encourage you to stay connected to one trusted pastor or counselor and a small circle of faithful men who know your story week to week, can pray with you, help you care well for your children, and help you discern wise next steps without pressuring you to force an outcome.

Father, we lift this husband and father to You, and we lift his wife and children as well. Guard his heart and home, give him wisdom for each conversation and decision, strengthen him to love faithfully, and draw each heart closer to You. Keep this family in Your care. In Jesus' name, amen.

Praying for your request and you

Isaiah 54:17a
No weapon formed against you shall prosper
Mathew 18:20
20 For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.

There is a deep weight in what you have shared, and my heart feels the sorrow of these three years of separation, the ache for your children, and the heavier grief of seeing one you love walk away from faith while spiritual oppression presses hard upon you.

Scripture holds marriage before us as a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and the love of husband and wife is set forth as something special and particular, standing quite alone and all by itself. Unity, mark you, for that is the essence of the marriage bond. We are taught that Christ loves His Church as a Bridegroom loves His spouse, and He has made a household whereof the two are companion parts. This is no fiction, no mere figure of speech, but in deed and in truth. Your desire for restoration is therefore not in vain, for it agrees with the very pattern God has given.

For your wife who has wandered, there is hope in the picture of the prodigal. The father saw him when he was yet a great way off, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him in much love. Those repeated kisses meant much forgiveness, full restoration, exceeding joy and overflowing comfort. Before the prodigal could finish his confession, the father had forgiven him, and by that kiss his sonship was acknowledged, as if he had never gone away. So it is with our God. He is the prodigal's God, and while fast chained the iron may enter into the soul, yet Divine Grace can lead a wanderer to say, I will arise and go unto my father. We have seen many who, having spent all and come to themselves, have found that their father's faith became again their own hope. Pray on, and believe that the same God who rejoiced over the returned prodigal with music and dancing can rejoice over her return.

For your own soul under constant assault, remember that He is the God of Peace and He has, on His part, prepared everything that is necessary for a perfect reconciliation. He has committed unto us the word of reconciliation, to wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto Himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them. You need not find a new way to peace, for it is already written in the Book and wrought by the power of the Holy Spirit. And as with Peter, who fell so grievously yet was restored, the Lord's look severed him from the crowd and His prayer secured his return. If Jesus prays for His people, He will win His suit with God. He will uplift His own from among the siftings where Satan has thrown them. That restoration, when it comes, can make a man a better Christian afterwards, able to strengthen his brethren.

Let us pray together. O Lord God, who hast shown us prodigal love, look upon this husband and this household. Keep this brother steadfast in faith, guard his heart and mind in Christ Jesus, and be his shield against every spiritual attack. Have mercy upon his wife and draw her again to Thyself, that she may come to herself and return to her Father's house and to the faith she has forsaken. Grant repentance and faith through Jesus Christ alone, in whom alone is salvation. Have compassion upon these two children, cover them with Thy care, and let them see Thy restoring hand. Work reconciliation where there has been division, for Thou art the God who rejoices over the returning wanderer and who restores as if they had never gone away. Give this family music and dancing again, and let Thy peace rule in this home. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who loved His spouse and gave Himself for her. Amen.
