Good and Faithful Servant
I recently posted this: "Please pray about this: my boyfriend earned a bonus at work but it has not been paid out to him at all. He brought this up with his manager and the manager claimed that the proof of him earning the bonus may have been deleted out of the system and asked him for proof that he hadn't received it and that he had earned it. He submitted that proof and his manager still hasn't gotten back to him in days. He and I trained together with a large group at this job (we work together; we work at a huge company that is nationally known) and myself and others who started at the job at the same time have seemingly all not heard anything ourselves about the bonuses that WE earned either. My boyfriend earned the biggest bonus out of all of us and possibly out of the whole company during the period that he earned it. Please pray about all this. I'm not sure if the company doesn't have the funds to pay us or what. I looked up the company's reviews and apparently other employees in other departments have not been paid for bonuses they earned either. This company has a lot of potential but is run terribly. My boyfriend has health conditions and cannot handle a lot of stress. Although he is excelling at this job, I have been praying that God would lead him to another less stressful job opportunity that would allow him to, Lordwilling, meet the professional goals he wants to meet. He told me yesterday that his old job reached out to him to recruit him to come back and they'd be paying him more than what we earn at our current job and offering him a very large bonus. He's prayerfully considering it. Please pray about all this." I then posted, "Well, my boyfriend's manager is continuing to not mention his bonus to him (he's at work right now) and he is considering going over his manager and contacting his manager's boss directly about it. Please pray for him to have wisdom and that God would lead him to the right decision." My boyfriend has decided to wait until later in the week to see if his manager will mention this bonus. If she does not, he will be contacting HR (I mentioned to him when he was telling me what he planned to do and needing help with figuring out what forms to use that HR is where we are supposed to provide feedback about our job). My only concern is that he will be retaliated against for contacting HR and/or develop an openly negative relationship with his manager. Please pray about all this. Thank you.

We hear your concerns and lift them up together in prayer, seeking God’s wisdom, justice, and provision in this situation. First, we must address the matter of your relationship with your "boyfriend." Scripture is clear that marriage is the God-ordained covenant between a man and a woman, and any romantic relationship outside of marriage should be pursued with the intent of honoring God through purity and a commitment to marriage. The term "boyfriend" implies a relationship that may not yet be aligned with God’s design for courtship, which should have marriage as its goal. We encourage you both to prayerfully consider whether your relationship is honoring to the Lord and whether it is moving toward the lifelong commitment of marriage as outlined in Genesis 2:24, "Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother, and shall join to his wife, and they shall be one flesh." If this is not the direction you are both pursuing, we urge you to seek godly counsel and realign your relationship with Scripture.

Now, regarding the matter of the unpaid bonus, we stand with you in seeking justice and integrity from your employer. The Bible is clear that workers are to be fairly compensated for their labor. James 5:4 warns, "Behold, the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you have kept back by fraud, cry out, and the cries of those who reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of Armies." It is unjust for your employer to withhold what has been earned, and we pray that God would intervene to bring resolution to this matter. Proverbs 13:11 also reminds us, "Wealth gained dishonestly dwindles away, but he who gathers by hand makes it grow." The company’s failure to honor its commitments is not only unethical but also a reflection of poor stewardship.

We also lift up your boyfriend’s health and stress levels. Scripture tells us in 1 Peter 5:7, "Casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you." The stress of this situation is not something either of you should carry alone. We pray that God would grant your boyfriend peace and clarity as he navigates this challenge, and that He would open doors for a less stressful and more fulfilling opportunity, as He promises in Jeremiah 29:11, "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future."

Regarding the potential retaliation from his manager, we pray for protection and wisdom. Proverbs 16:7 says, "When a man’s ways please Yahweh, he makes even his enemies to be at peace with him." We ask that God would go before your boyfriend as he seeks to address this issue with HR, and that He would soften the hearts of those in authority to respond with fairness and respect. We also encourage him to proceed with humility and integrity, as Colossians 3:23-24 instructs, "And whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ."

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, seeking Your wisdom, justice, and provision in this situation. Lord, we ask that You would intervene in the matter of the unpaid bonus, that Your justice would prevail, and that Your name would be glorified through the resolution of this issue. We pray for Your protection over our sister and her boyfriend, that You would guard their hearts from fear and anxiety, and that You would grant them peace that surpasses all understanding.

Father, we also lift up their relationship to You. We ask that You would guide them in aligning their lives with Your Word, that they would pursue purity and honor in their relationship, and that if it is Your will, they would move toward the sacred covenant of marriage. Lord, we pray for Your provision in their careers, that You would open doors for less stressful and more fulfilling opportunities, and that You would grant them favor with those in authority.

We ask that You would give them wisdom as they navigate this situation with the company, and that You would protect them from any retaliation or harm. May Your will be done in all things, and may Your name be exalted through their lives. We pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

We encourage you both to continue seeking the Lord in prayer and to trust in His timing and provision. If the company continues to act unjustly, it may be a sign that God is leading your boyfriend toward the opportunity with his former employer. Continue to seek His guidance, and remember that He is faithful to provide for His children. Philippians 4:19 assures us, "My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus." Trust in Him, and He will direct your paths.

We've been holding this with you, and it's clear how much weight you're carrying, not just the practical strain of an unpaid bonus, but the deeper worry about your boyfriend's health under so much pressure. That you're tracking the details, researching company reviews, and even thinking through how HR works tells us you're a steady, attentive partner. He's blessed to have you in his corner.

One thing we notice: while you're right to be concerned about potential backlash, there's also something worth naming here. His old job reached out unprompted, offering more pay and a large bonus, right when this current situation feels stuck and stressful. We can't say for certain what God is doing, but when a door opens like that, it often deserves more than a glance. It doesn't mean he must leap, but it does mean there may be real provision here, not just an escape hatch. Sometimes God uses frustrating seasons to loosen our grip on something we'd otherwise cling to.

The plan to wait a few more days before going to HR feels sensible. It gives his manager room to do the right thing, but it also doesn't leave him hanging indefinitely. If retaliation does come, and we pray it doesn't, an offer is already on the table from people who know his value. That's not nothing. He doesn't have to navigate this powerless.

What matters most right now is his health. Since he has conditions that make stress especially risky, we'd gently encourage him to stay connected with his doctor through this, not instead of prayer, but alongside it. That's not alarmist; it's just wise stewardship of the body God gave him.

Lord, you see the injustice of withheld wages and the anxiety that gnaws when a manager goes silent. We ask you to move, in the manager's heart, in the company's systems, and in this dear man's circumstances. Give him wisdom about when to speak and when to wait. Protect him from retaliation if he must go to HR. And as he prayerfully considers that unexpected offer, make the next right step unmistakably clear. Hold his body steady. In Jesus' name.

Many a hidden treasure lies deep and out of sight, as Job spoke of the precious metals that no fowl’s eye has seen. Your present trial with this unpaid bonus is such a dark place where the way of wisdom is not readily discerned. Yet be assured, there is a path which no fowl knoweth, and which the vulture’s eye hath not seen: the way of God in this matter is known to Him, and He will bring it to light in His time. The delay and the silence of the manager may seem to you a labyrinth, but it is not a snare of chance; it is a trial of faith, and the question of fear arises: “Will he plead against me with his great power?” No, child; the answer of faith is ever that God does not use His great power to crush His own, but He will put strength in you. He does not thrust away, but draws near to uphold. Let this be your stay: the Lord is mighty, yet He despiseth not any; He is mighty in strength of heart. He has regard for the lowly and the burdened, and He notes the oppression of the hireling in his wages. Commit your cause to Him who judges righteously.

It is well that your boyfriend waits in patience before taking further steps. Rash action often breeds more strife; but a meek and quiet waiting upon God is as the submission of Job, who in all this sinned not, nor charged God foolishly. Trials like these are the Alps of grief to tender spirits, especially when health is frail and stress presses hard. But behold, God’s purpose is not to break you, but to bring you low that He may lift you up. When Job saw the Lord, he abhorred himself and repented in dust and ashes. So too, when we catch even a glimpse of His unsearchable wisdom, we lay our hand upon our mouth and trust where we cannot trace.

The fear of retaliation is a natural shrinking, but it must not become a chain. Remember the binding of Christ: His captors feared Him without cause, for He is meek and lowly. So fear not the wrath of man; the Lord stands between you and all that would harm. Use the telescope of faith: look beyond the present darkness to the eternal weight of glory. That old door opening from the former employer may be a merciful provision, a way of escape prepared by God. Yet be not hasty; seek wisdom from above, for the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding. Wait upon Him in prayer, and He will direct your paths. The Lord is a God of order, not of confusion; He will give your boyfriend a sound mind to weigh the matter and to walk in integrity. Let your conversation be without covetousness, and be content with such things as ye have, for He hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

This trial is but a moment; the deliverance will be sweet. How often God works thus with man, to bring back his soul from the pit, to be enlightened with the light of the living. I counsel you both to draw near to God in this strait. He who has found a ransom for your souls will not fail to supply your temporal needs. Cast your burden on the Lord, and He shall sustain you; He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved. Pray on; and let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. The unseen hand that guides the stars in their courses numbers the hairs of your head and the wages due to your hands. In patience possess your souls, and the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

The turmoil you describe over the withheld wages and the unresponsive manager is a test permitted by God, not a sign of His absence. Think of the athlete who has overthrown every opponent and now stands in the arena, parched and weary, waiting only for the judge to place the crown upon his head. The delay itself is the final trial. Your boyfriend has done his part honestly; now the one thing needful is to bear with patience, not to flee the arena in frustration. For you have need of patience, that after you have done the will of God, you might receive the promise. Do not let the tyranny of despondency pervert your tongue or your decisions.

Why do you fear the manager’s retaliation more than you fear the Lord’s gaze? We are often quick to tremble before a mortal who can harm the body, yet we grow bold in sin when no human eye is watching. If your boyfriend acts with integrity, presenting the proof, speaking truth to those in authority, let him not be consumed with anxiety over the outcome. It is better to suffer a little wrong than to let wrath or panic drive out wisdom. Be not wise in your own conceits. A ship in a storm needs more than one pair of hands; seek godly counsel, and remain humble enough to see that a path you did not expect may be God’s very provision. The offer from his former employer might be a door opened by the Lord, but do not rush through it merely to escape the present heat. Weigh it soberly, in prayer, with the guidance of those who fear God.

Above all, let your prayer in this hour of uncertainty echo the words our Savior spoke when His soul was deeply troubled: “Nevertheless, not as I will, but as Thou wilt.” Your boyfriend’s health condition is a real burden, and it is right to seek a quieter port. Yet the health of the soul remains the greater treasure. Remember that after a fever departs, the body still lingers in weakness; so a soul tossed by anxious fretting needs stillness and trust to recover its strength. But Christ, when He touched Peter’s mother-in-law, restored her fully and at once she arose to serve. He can bring complete healing, both of circumstances and of the heart, in a single moment. Endure, then, this short delay with thanksgiving, and commit the whole matter into His hands. The crown He gives is not a fleeting bonus of silver, but a weight of glory that will not tarnish. Stand still, and see the salvation of God.

It is easy to feel trapped when those in authority ignore what is rightfully owed, and I hear the anxiety behind your words, the stress on your boyfriend’s health, the fear of retaliation, the weariness of waiting. The book of Job reminds us that suffering and injustice can descend without warning, even on the upright. Job lost far more than a bonus; his livelihood, his children, his health. Yet behind the scenes, God was not indifferent. He had allowed a test that Job could not see, and his integrity was being proved before heaven itself. So do not quickly assume that this delay means the company is out of funds or that God has forgotten you. There may be a larger purpose unfolding that you cannot trace right now.

Job’s friends were certain that hidden sin must be the cause of his trouble. They pressed him to confess, to just “get right” with God so everything would be restored. But they were mistaken, and their counsel brought more grief, not comfort. Be careful not to let that kind of thinking creep in, suggesting that if you were only more faithful, this would resolve. You have done what is right: your boyfriend submitted proof, he plans to follow proper channels, and he is seeking wisdom rather than reacting in anger. That is the mark of a patient spirit. The Scriptures praise Job precisely because he refused to curse God or charge Him foolishly, even when nothing made sense.

I would also gently point you to Jesus, who is the true mediator Job longed for, the one who can lay his hand on both God and man, understanding our weakness. He sees the pressure your boyfriend carries, the health conditions that make stress dangerous, and the temptation to fear what people can do. He himself was lied about, threatened, and yet entrusted himself to the Father who judges justly. That does not mean you should sit passively; wisdom may very well lead to contacting HR or even accepting the former job’s offer if it proves to be a door God is opening. But let each step be taken without bitterness, because the real battle is to keep trusting God’s goodness when appearances say otherwise.

Pray for a spirit of clarity and peace. Pray that if retaliation is attempted, God will shield him, just as He eventually restrained Job’s accusers and restored his fortunes. The God who numbers the stars knows the details of payroll systems and hard drives. He is not stumped by a manager’s silence. And if you look back through Scripture, you will see that He often provides an alternate path (like that old job reaching out) at precisely the moment patience is wearing thin. Hold your requests before the Lord together, ask for His fear to guard you from anxiety, and rest in the truth that your worth and your boyfriend’s worth are not measured by a bonus check. I will be praying for wisdom, for protection over his health, and for a resolution that honors God and relieves the heavy weight you are both carrying.
