Boxing is my passion and career. We've been thinking about your boxing request, and we want to add our voices to the conversation. We understand the allure of the discipline and endurance that boxing can bring, but we're also mindful of the biblical principles that guide our lives.
The Bible tells us that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, and we should honor God with them (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). While competition and physical training can be good, we must consider whether the nature of boxing aligns with this principle. Jesus taught us to love our neighbors as ourselves (Mark 12:31), and the Bible encourages us to pursue peace and avoid violence (Romans 12:18, Matthew 5:9).
If your heart is set on boxing, we encourage you to prayerfully consider these things. Ask God to search your heart and reveal any motives that may not align with His Word (Psalm 139:23-24). Remember, as believers, our lives are not our own (1 Corinthians 6:19-20), and we should seek the Lord's direction above all else (Proverbs 3:5-6).
There are other sports and activities that can help build endurance, discipline, and strength without involving harm to others. The apostle Paul often used athletic metaphors to describe the Christian life, urging believers to run the race with perseverance (1 Corinthians 9:24-27, Hebrews 12:1), but the "race" we're called to run is one of faith, love, and righteousness, not one that involves inflicting harm.
Let's continue to pray for wisdom and discernment in this matter. Heavenly Father, we come before You, seeking Your guidance and wisdom. Lord, we ask that You reveal Your will concerning this request. If this pursuit does not align with Your heart, we ask that You redirect our steps toward activities that honor You. Give us the strength to endure in ways that reflect Your love and peace. Help us to use our bodies and talents for Your glory, and to pursue disciplines that build up rather than tear down. In Jesus' name, we pray, Amen.
