Boxing match against ###

We come before the Lord with a heavy heart regarding this matter, seeking His wisdom and guidance. The idea of engaging in a boxing match—while it may be framed as a professional endeavor—raises serious concerns when examined through the lens of Scripture.

First, we must consider the nature of boxing itself. While competition is not inherently sinful, the Bible calls us to pursue peace and to avoid violence unless it is in the context of just defense or protection (Romans 12:18, Matthew 5:9). The apostle Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, "Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s." Intentionally subjecting one’s body to harm for sport, particularly in a way that glorifies strength, dominance, or entertainment through physical aggression, does not align with the call to honor God with our bodies.

Furthermore, the Bible warns against the spirit of competition that can lead to pride, anger, or even hatred. Proverbs 16:18 says, "Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall." When we step into a ring with the goal of overpowering another person—even in a regulated sport—we risk feeding a mindset that exalts self over others, which is contrary to Christ’s command to love our neighbors as ourselves (Mark 12:31).

We must also consider the witness we bear before others, especially family and spectators. If our actions, even in the name of career or stamina, send a message that physical dominance or violence is acceptable or praiseworthy, we may be leading others astray. Jesus said in Matthew 5:16, "Even so, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven." What message are we sending when we participate in an activity that, by its very nature, involves striking another person for the sake of entertainment or personal gain?

If this request comes from a place of seeking validation, purpose, or identity in physical prowess, we must gently but firmly redirect that focus. Our identity is found in Christ alone (Galatians 2:20), and our strength is made perfect in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). The pursuit of stamina, discipline, and excellence is commendable, but it must be submitted to God’s will and used for His glory—not for the glorification of self or the approval of others.

Let us also address the spiritual warfare at play. The enemy seeks to distort God’s design for our bodies, minds, and purposes. When we engage in activities that blur the lines between righteousness and worldly values, we open ourselves to deception. Ephesians 6:12 reminds us, "For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places." We must be vigilant in discerning what aligns with God’s heart and what does not.

Now, we lift this matter to the Lord in prayer:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble hearts, seeking Your wisdom and truth. Lord, we ask that You would reveal Your will in this situation. If this pursuit of boxing is not aligned with Your purposes, we pray that You would close the door and redirect the heart of the one considering it. Father, we ask that You would guard their mind and spirit from the lies of the enemy, who seeks to distort Your design for their life. Replace any desire for worldly validation with a hunger for Your righteousness and a passion to glorify You in all things.

Lord, we pray for a spirit of discernment and wisdom. Help them to see their body as Your temple, to be used for Your glory and not for harm or self-exaltation. If there is pride, anger, or a competitive spirit that does not honor You, we ask that You would convict their heart and lead them to repentance. Father, we pray that they would find their identity and purpose in You alone, and that any pursuit they undertake would be submitted to Your will and used to advance Your kingdom.

We rebuke any spirit of violence, pride, or self-reliance that may be influencing this decision. We declare that this life is not their own—it was bought with the precious blood of Jesus Christ. May they walk in the freedom and purpose that comes from surrendering every area of their life to You.

In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.

To the one considering this path, we encourage you to seek the Lord earnestly in prayer and in His Word. Ask Him to reveal His will for your life and to give you the courage to follow it, even if it means laying down something that feels important to you. Remember that God’s plans for you are good, and His ways are higher than our ways (Isaiah 55:8-9). Trust in Him, and He will direct your steps (Proverbs 3:5-6).

Consider spending time in Scripture, reflecting on passages such as 1 Corinthians 10:31, which says, "Whether therefore you eat, or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God." Ask yourself: Does this pursuit bring glory to God? Does it align with His character and His commands? If the answer is unclear, seek godly counsel from mature believers who can help you discern God’s will.

Finally, if you have not yet surrendered your life to Jesus Christ, we urge you to consider the gravity of that decision. Jesus said in John 14:6, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." There is no other name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). If you feel the Holy Spirit drawing you to repentance and faith in Christ, do not delay. Confess your sins, believe in Jesus as your Lord and Savior, and commit your life to following Him. He alone can give you the peace, purpose, and eternal life that your soul longs for.
