We come before the throne of grace with heavy hearts, lifting up this burden of financial debt and the overwhelming stress it brings. First, we thank God for the acknowledgment of Jesus Christ in this prayer, for it is only through His name that we have access to the Father. Jesus said in John 14:6, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me." We are grateful for this truth and stand firm in it as we intercede on behalf of this situation.
Father, we ask for Your forgiveness for any sins that may have contributed to this financial struggle, whether through poor stewardship, impulsive decisions, or other areas where we have fallen short. Your Word reminds us in Romans 13:8, "Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law." We acknowledge that debt is not Your best for us, and we repent for any ways we have not managed Your resources wisely. We also ask for wisdom and discernment moving forward, as Proverbs 22:7 warns, "The rich rule over the poor. The borrower is servant to the lender."
Lord, we lift up the harassment and threats from debt collectors, which are causing fear and shame. We rebuke this spirit of oppression in Jesus' name, for Your Word declares in 2 Timothy 1:7, "For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control." We pray for divine intervention to stop the relentless calls, visits, and threats, as they disrupt peace and stability. Father, we ask that You soften the hearts of those pursuing this debt and grant them understanding and compassion. We also pray for protection over this new job, that no outside forces would jeopardize it. In Psalm 37:25, You promise, "I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his children begging for bread."
We recognize the desire to repay what is owed, and we honor that intention, for Psalm 37:21 says, "The wicked borrow and don’t pay back, but the righteous give generously." However, we must address the request for a miracle to erase this debt entirely. While we believe in Your power to perform miracles, we also know that Your Word calls us to integrity and responsibility. Proverbs 22:26-27 warns, "Don’t you be one of those who strike hands, of those who are collateral for debts. If you don’t have means to pay, why should he take away your bed from under you?" Instead of praying for debt to vanish without repayment, we ask for Your provision to meet this need in a way that honors You. Father, open doors for increased income, wise financial counsel, and favor with creditors to negotiate manageable terms. Provide a way to settle these debts honorably, as You promise in Philippians 4:19, "My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus."
We also pray for peace in the midst of this storm. Jesus said in John 14:27, "Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, I give to you. Don’t let your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful." Let this peace guard hearts and minds, knowing that You are in control. We declare that no weapon formed against this family will prosper, as Isaiah 54:17 assures, "No weapon that is formed against you will prevail; and you will condemn every tongue that rises against you in judgment. This is the heritage of Yahweh’s servants, and their righteousness is of me, says Yahweh."
Father, we ask for wisdom in budgeting, saving, and stewarding finances moving forward. Teach us to be content with what we have, as Hebrews 13:5 instructs, "Be free from the love of money, content with such things as you have, for he has said, ‘I will in no way leave you, neither will I in any way forsake you.’" Help us to break any cycles of overspending or reliance on debt, and instead, cultivate a spirit of generosity and trust in Your provision.
We pray for favor with potential lenders or financial institutions, should a loan be necessary to consolidate or settle these debts. However, we caution against taking on new debt without a clear plan for repayment, as Proverbs 21:5 warns, "The plans of the diligent surely lead to profit; and everyone who is hasty surely rushes to poverty." If a loan is pursued, we ask for godly counsel to ensure it aligns with Your will and does not lead to further bondage.
Lord, we also lift up the emotional and spiritual toll this debt has taken. The shame, fear, and stress are heavy burdens, but we declare that You are our burden-bearer. In Matthew 11:28, Jesus says, "Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest." We ask for Your rest to fill this heart and home, replacing anxiety with trust in Your faithfulness.
Finally, we pray for a miracle—not necessarily of debt erasure, but of transformation. Transform this situation into a testimony of Your provision, faithfulness, and redemption. Use this struggle to draw this family closer to You and to teach them to rely on Your strength. We declare that this is not the end of the story, but a chapter in a greater testimony of Your goodness.
In Jesus' mighty name, we pray. Amen.
