We join with you in lifting up this heavy burden of debt and the distress it has brought upon you and your family. It is right that you have come before the Father in the name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we find mercy, grace, and the power to overcome every trial. The Scriptures remind us in Philippians 4:6-7, *"In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus."* We also recall the promise in 1 Peter 5:7, *"Cast all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you."* You have done well to bring this before the Lord, and we stand with you in faith, believing that He will provide wisdom, protection, and a way forward.
The harassment you are facing from debt collectors is deeply troubling, and we recognize the shame and fear it has brought into your life. The Bible speaks clearly about the oppression of the wicked and the protection of the righteous. Psalm 37:14-15 declares, *"The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, to cast down the poor and needy, to kill those who are upright in the way. Their sword shall enter into their own heart. Their bows shall be broken."* While we do not wish harm upon anyone, we trust that God sees the injustice of their tactics—threats, harassment, and the disruption of your peace—and He will act on your behalf. Proverbs 22:7 reminds us that *"the borrower is servant to the lender,"* but we serve a God who breaks every yoke of bondage. You are not abandoned in this; the Lord is your defender.
That said, we must also address the heart behind your request for the debts to be "closed completely" so that you "no longer need to make payments." While we understand the desperation behind this plea, Scripture is clear that we are to honor our obligations and repay what we owe. Romans 13:7-8 states, *"Give therefore to everyone what you owe: taxes to whom taxes are due; customs to whom customs are due; respect to whom respect is due; honor to whom honor is due. Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law."* We do not ask God to remove the consequence of debt without repayment, but rather to provide the means for you to fulfill your responsibilities in a way that brings glory to Him. Your desire to repay everyone is noble and aligns with God’s Word, and we pray He will open doors for you to do so honorably.
The threat of legal action and the potential loss of your new job weigh heavily on you, and we ask the Lord to shield you from further harm. He is able to silence the mouths of those who seek to destroy your peace and livelihood. Psalm 107:41 tells us, *"Yet he lifts the needy out of their affliction, and increases their families like a flock."* We pray that God would lift you out of this affliction and protect your employment, for He is the one who provides work and sustains you. If it is His will, we ask that He would grant you favor in securing a personal loan—*not* as an escape from responsibility, but as a tool to consolidate and repay your debts in a manner that reflects integrity and stewardship. However, we also caution you to seek godly wisdom in this process, ensuring that any new financial commitment does not lead you into further bondage. Proverbs 22:26-27 warns, *"Don’t you be one of those who strike hands, of those who are collateral for debts. If you don’t have means to pay, why should he take away your bed from under you?"*
We must also address the spiritual aspect of this trial. Debt can often reveal deeper issues of trust, stewardship, and even idolatry—whether it be the love of money, fear of lack, or reliance on worldly systems rather than God. Jesus teaches in Matthew 6:24, *"No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other; or else he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You can’t serve both God and Mammon."* We encourage you to examine your heart: Have there been decisions made out of fear, greed, or a lack of trust in God’s provision? Repentance and surrender in this area are crucial. The Lord desires to teach you to rely on Him fully, not on loans or human solutions alone. He may use this season to refine your faith and draw you closer to Him.
Lastly, we rejoice that you have brought this before the Lord in the name of Jesus, for there is no other name under heaven by which we are saved or through which we can approach the Father. Acts 4:12 declares, *"There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved!"* Your faith in Christ is your anchor, and we pray that this trial would deepen your dependence on Him.
Now, let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up our brother/sister who is burdened by the weight of debt and the oppression of relentless harassment. Lord, You see the shame, the fear, and the desperation they feel. You know the threats that have been made against them and the potential loss of their job. We ask that You would intervene supernaturally and silence the voices of those who seek to destroy their peace. Rebuke the enemy who seeks to steal, kill, and destroy, and let Your angelic hosts stand guard over their home, their family, and their workplace. No weapon formed against them shall prosper, for You are their shield and their exceedingly great reward.
Father, we ask for Your wisdom and provision. If it is Your will, open doors for them to secure the means to repay their debts honorably—whether through a loan, increased income, or unexpected blessings. But Lord, guard their heart from the love of money or the temptation to trust in worldly solutions more than in You. Teach them to be good stewards of what You provide, and lead them into a life of financial freedom that glorifies Your name.
We pray for protection over their job, that no scheme of the enemy would succeed in removing them from their position. Give them favor in the sight of their employers and colleagues. Let this season be a testimony of Your faithfulness, that others may see and know that You are a God who delivers His children.
Lord, we also ask that You would heal the shame and anxiety that has taken root in their heart. Remind them that their worth is not found in their financial status, but in their identity as Your beloved child. Restore their joy and peace, and let them experience the truth of Psalm 34:17-19, *"The righteous cry, and Yahweh hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles. Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but Yahweh delivers him out of them all."*
Father, we thank You that You are a God of miracles, and we trust that You will make a way where there seems to be no way. We declare Your promises over this situation: that You will supply all their needs according to Your riches in glory (Philippians 4:19), and that no good thing will You withhold from those who walk uprightly (Psalm 84:11). We ask all these things in the powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, who has overcome the world. Amen.
We encourage you to continue seeking the Lord daily in prayer and in His Word. Surround yourself with wise, godly counsel—perhaps even a financial advisor or mentor from your church who can help you create a plan to manage your debts biblically. Remember, this trial is not the end of your story. The Lord is faithful, and He will see you through to the other side. Stand firm, trust in Him, and walk in obedience. He will never leave you nor forsake you.
