Be a Role Model

Your desire to be a role model is a good and godly one. Scripture calls every believer to live in such a way that others can see Christ in us. You are not alone in wondering how to navigate the gray areas you mentioned, like whether to get a tattoo or how to use money. The apostle Paul gave us a broad principle: “All things are lawful for me, but not all things are expedient.” As a Christian, you have true freedom, but you also run a race to win. That means you weigh every choice by whether it helps you press toward the goal of knowing Christ and making him known. If a tattoo or any expenditure would pull you away or weaken your witness, it is wise to set it aside. But remember, the kingdom is not about merely avoiding outward things; it is about the heart that loves God and neighbor.

You mentioned wanting to help others and being a good steward of money. That is exactly the kind of example the world needs. When you saw that woman struggling with her luggage and jumped in to serve without expecting payment, you reflected the servant heart of Jesus. He washed feet and told us, “I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you.” Real ministry is not about being seen or being in charge; it is about loving others in tangible ways. Let your life be an example in word and in how you live, in love, in purity, and in faith.

When it comes to explaining difficult moral issues, do so with gentleness and respect, not with a spirit of scolding. The world is watching, and often people feel condemned rather than drawn to the truth. Speak the truth about marriage and life and the body, but let your speech be seasoned with grace. The collapse of morality in any society shows what happens when people reject God’s design, but you and I are not called to force change by human pressure. We live differently, and we share the reason for the hope that is in us, trusting the Spirit to convict hearts.

Remember that true freedom is not doing whatever you want; it is not being brought under the power of anything. Whether it is alcohol, drugs, or even an obsession with frugality that turns into judgment of others, anything that controls you apart from the Spirit can become a snare. You have chosen to avoid drinking because of your own struggles, and that is commendable. Be careful not to look down on those whose conscience leads them differently in matters not directly commanded. In the body of Christ, we must love one another, even when we disagree on debatable things.

Be an example, yes. But do it by esteeming others better than yourself, by looking not only to your own interests but also to the interests of others. That is the mind of Christ. As you keep doing good, helping, explaining, serving, you will find that you yourself are enriched and saved from many snares. The world is desperate for models of real righteousness, not self-righteousness. The earthly things are shadows; the real is found in Jesus, our high priest who serves in heaven itself. Let him be your model, and you will become the role model you long to be.

Your heart for a better world, for people to live with morals and care, is a reflection of God’s own heart. Keep praying, keep serving, and keep growing in the knowledge of his Word. In doing so, you will not only be a blessing to others but will also experience his blessing in your own life.
