The anguish you describe is heavy, and the wrong done against you and your marriage is not hidden from God. What your husband’s brother has done is the exact opposite of what a brother was meant to be in God’s design. In the law, a brother had a sacred duty to build up his brother’s house, to preserve his name and protect his family line. A brother who refused that duty faced open, public rebuke. How much more serious is it when a brother deliberately tears down that house out of jealousy and selfish gain? The one who should have been a guardian became a destroyer, and the Lord sees it all.
The deepest need now is for truth to be exposed. You are asking how to pray, and that very desire aligns with the character of God himself. Scripture teaches that hidden things will be brought to light, and that the Spirit is sent to guide into all truth. Even when people resist the truth, God is not passive. Jesus spoke in ways that both revealed and concealed, yet the truth was never defeated. Pray, then, that the Spirit who knows the darkness of every heart would make the truth inescapable, not only before your husband’s eyes but within the heart of the brother who has used and manipulated him. Ask God to shine his light so that the lies cannot remain standing, and that the jealous scheming would be uncovered, just as the Pharisees eventually recognized that Jesus’ words exposed their own hearts.
But also remember that only a divine work can change a person. A leper could not be cleansed by willpower or good behavior; only the direct, healing touch of God could restore him to life in the community. The law made provision for God’s grace to break in and do what was impossible. That is your hope for this marriage. The rebuke can take many forms: a piercing truth he cannot escape, a collapse of his influence, a holy disruption that leaves him no peace. God knows how to deliver the arrogant into the consequences of their sin while still extending grace to those who turn.
Meanwhile, guard your own heart from the poison of bitterness. The poor widow gave everything she had, not knowing the future, and the Lord saw her heart and commended her. He sees your faithfulness and the pain of your secrecy, which was born out of a mother’s desire to let a child see her father, not out of infidelity. Bring that aching honesty to the Lord continually, without giving up.
Scripture promises that prophecies must be fulfilled, and God’s purposes cannot be stopped. That is a solid rock for your prayers. You are not trying to persuade a reluctant God to act; you are aligning your heart with his sure justice and mercy.
