We join you in lifting up these fellow believers who have strayed into sin and are causing pain, knowing that it is only by the power of Jesus’ name that hearts can be transformed. It is grievous when those who profess Christ remain unrepentant, especially when their actions harm others, but we must remember that our struggle is not against flesh and blood but against spiritual forces of wickedness (Ephesians 6:12). The Lord does not delight in the death of the wicked but desires that all would turn from their ways and live (Ezekiel 18:23). So we come before the Father with boldness, trusting that He is faithful to convict, correct, and restore His children.
The Word of God warns us clearly that no one who practices sin has seen or known Him (1 John 3:6) and that drunkenness—along with other works of the flesh—will exclude one from inheriting the Kingdom of God (Galatians 5:19-21). Yet we also know that if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). So we pray that the Holy Spirit would pierce their hearts with godly sorrow that leads to repentance, not a worldly sorrow that leads to death (2 Corinthians 7:10). May they be broken over their sin and turn away from it completely, for the Lord disciplines those He loves (Hebrews 12:6).
We also pray for you, dear brother or sister, who has been wounded by their actions. The Lord sees your pain and calls you to forgive as He has forgiven you (Colossians 3:13). This does not mean excusing their sin or pretending it didn’t happen, but releasing the bitterness to the Lord, trusting Him to bring justice and restoration. Guard your heart against resentment, for it can become a root of bitterness that defiles many (Hebrews 12:15). Instead, clothe yourself in humility and love, remembering that apart from God’s grace, we are all capable of the same stumbles (Galatians 6:1).
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up these brothers and sisters who have been ensnared by sin. Lord, You alone can open their eyes to see the destruction their choices are causing—not only to themselves but to those around them. We ask that You would send Your Holy Spirit to convict them deeply, to break their hearts over their rebellion, and to lead them to true repentance. Remove the deception that blinds them, and let them see their sin as You see it—filthy, damaging, and an affront to Your holiness.
Father, we pray that they would no longer harden their hearts but would turn to You in humility, seeking forgiveness and restoration. Let them remember the high price Jesus paid for their freedom and no longer take Your grace for granted. Give them a hatred for sin and a hunger for righteousness. Surround them with godly influences who will speak truth in love and hold them accountable. Break the strongholds of alcohol and pride in their lives, and replace them with a thirst for Your Word and a desire to walk in obedience.
Lord, we also lift up our brother/sister who has been hurt by their actions. Heal their wounds, Father, and fill them with Your peace. Give them the strength to forgive as You have forgiven them, and protect their heart from bitterness. Help them to trust You to bring justice and redemption in Your perfect timing. Remind them that vengeance belongs to You, and You will repay (Romans 12:19). Let them rest in Your sovereignty, knowing that You are working all things together for good, even in this painful season.
We declare that no weapon formed against Your children will prosper (Isaiah 54:17). Bring unity and reconciliation where there has been division, and let Your name be glorified in their repentance and restoration. May they once again walk in the light, bearing fruit that honors You.
We ask all this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus, our Savior and Redeemer. Amen.
