The feelings of embarrassment and guilt are real, but we must first bring this before the Lord with honesty and humility, trusting in His grace and mercy. The Bible tells us in 1 John 1:9, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." You are not defined by this struggle, but by the blood of Jesus Christ, which covers all sin when we come to Him in repentance.
Wet dreams, or nocturnal emissions, are a natural physical occurrence, but they can become a stumbling block when they are fueled by impure thoughts, lust, or ungodly influences in our lives. We must examine our hearts and ask the Lord to reveal any areas where we may be entertaining sinful desires or consuming content that feeds impurity. Jesus warns us in Matthew 5:28, "But I tell you that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart." This principle applies to all forms of lust, whether it is directed toward another person, images, or even fantasies. We must guard our hearts and minds diligently, for "out of it are the issues of life" (Proverbs 4:23).
Let us also address the shame you feel. Shame is not from God—it is a tool the enemy uses to keep us isolated and bound in silence. But the Lord desires to set you free. Romans 8:1 declares, "There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who don’t walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit." We must also consider the role of accountability in this struggle. Are you surrounding yourself with godly men who can pray for you, encourage you, and hold you accountable? Proverbs 27:17 says, "Iron sharpens iron; so a man sharpens his friend’s countenance." Do not carry this burden alone. Seek out a trusted brother in Christ who can walk alongside you in this journey.
