Anxiety/dealing with ADHD and getting my house in order

Anonymous

Beloved of All
I am struggling to get my house in order. I went through a difficult time for several years and my house suffered due to my depression. Now I am still struggling but I am so overwhelmed with what needs to be done, I can’t get anything done. I have too many clothes, crafts and bedding. I pray to God to help me with my struggles. I have decided that I need to let go of my decor regardless of the value. I want to pack up as much as I can and donate it to a ministry that supports a rehabilitation home for addicts. Please pray that I am able to let go of these items to a good cause.

We hear your heart, dear sister in Christ, and we stand with you in prayer as you seek to bring order to your home and peace to your mind. The weight of anxiety, ADHD, and the lingering effects of depression can make even small tasks feel insurmountable, but we serve a God who specializes in bringing beauty from chaos and strength from weakness. Your desire to let go of excess and bless others—especially those in rehabilitation—is a beautiful reflection of Christ’s heart. We rejoice that the Lord is stirring in you a spirit of generosity and purpose, even in the midst of struggle.

First, we must address the foundation of your prayer. You mention praying to "God," but we must emphasize that it is only through the name of **Jesus Christ** that we have access to the Father. Jesus Himself declared, *"I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me"* (John 14:6 WEB). There is no other name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). If you have not yet surrendered your life to Christ, we urge you to confess your sins, believe in His death and resurrection for your salvation, and invite Him to be Lord of your life. Without this, our prayers lack the authority and power that come from being in right relationship with God through His Son.

Now, to your specific struggles: The overwhelm you feel is real, but we serve a God who does not leave us to face it alone. The apostle Paul wrote, *"I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me"* (Philippians 4:13 WEB). This is not a cliché—it is a promise. ADHD and anxiety may make focus and follow-through difficult, but the Holy Spirit is your Helper (John 14:26). We rebuke the spirit of paralysis and distraction in Jesus’ name and declare that the Lord will give you wisdom, clarity, and the ability to break down tasks into manageable steps.

Your home has become a reflection of the emotional clutter you’ve carried, but God is in the business of restoration. *"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you,” says Yahweh, “thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future"* (Jeremiah 29:11 WEB). The excess of clothes, crafts, and bedding may feel like security, but true peace comes from trusting God to provide for your needs (Matthew 6:33). We encourage you to pray over each item and ask the Lord to show you what to keep, what to donate, and what to discard. If sentimentality is holding you back, remember that your treasure is not in earthly possessions but in heaven (Matthew 6:19-21).

Your plan to donate to a ministry supporting addicts is commendable. *"Let each man give according as he has determined in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver"* (2 Corinthians 9:7 WEB). We pray that the Lord will make your giving a blessing not only to those who receive but also to your own heart as you release what no longer serves you. We rebuke any spirit of hoarding or fear of lack and declare that God will meet every need according to His riches in glory (Philippians 4:19).

Let us pray for you now:

*"Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up our sister who is struggling with anxiety, ADHD, and the weight of restoring order to her home. Lord, You are the God who calms the storm and brings peace to the troubled heart. We ask that You would quiet the noise in her mind and give her the focus and strength to tackle one task at a time. Father, we rebuke the spirit of overwhelm and declare that Your yoke is easy and Your burden is light (Matthew 11:30).

We pray for wisdom as she sorts through her belongings. Give her discernment to know what to keep, what to give, and what to let go of. Lord, we ask that You would bless the items she donates to the rehabilitation ministry, that they would bring comfort and practical help to those in need. May this act of generosity be a step toward healing for her as well, as she trusts You to provide for her every need.

Father, we also pray for her mental and emotional health. ADHD and anxiety can make daily life feel like a battle, but we declare that You are her refuge and strength (Psalm 46:1). Help her to cast all her cares on You, knowing that You care for her (1 Peter 5:7). Surround her with supportive believers who can encourage her and hold her accountable.

Most of all, Lord, we pray that she would draw near to You and find her identity and worth in Christ alone. If she has not yet surrendered her life to You, we ask that You would reveal Yourself to her in a powerful way, that she may experience the saving grace and peace that only come through Jesus.

We thank You for Your faithfulness and for the work You are doing in her life. May she experience the joy of a home that reflects Your order and peace. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen."*

We encourage you to take this process one step at a time. Start with a single drawer, a single shelf, or even a single pile. Celebrate small victories, and do not despise the day of small beginnings (Zechariah 4:10). The Lord is with you, and He will complete the good work He has begun in you (Philippians 1:6). If possible, enlist the help of a trusted friend or family member to keep you accountable and encouraged. You are not alone in this journey.

We're right there with you, sister. It's tough dealing with anxiety and ADHD, especially when it feels like your house is a reflection of the chaos in your mind. But remember, God specializes in turning messes into masterpieces. He's not overwhelmed by your situation, and He's not surprised by your struggles. He's right there with you, ready to help you take one step at a time.

Let's tackle this together. First, let's pray. "Dear Heavenly Father, we come to You in Jesus' name. We lift up our ### who's feeling overwhelmed. Lord, You see her heart, You see her struggles. We ask that You would give her clarity of mind, focus, and the strength to start small. Help her to see each task as a manageable step, not an insurmountable mountain.

Help her as she sorts through her belongings. Give her wisdom to know what to keep, what to give away, and what to let go. Lord, we ask that You would bless the items she donates. May they bring comfort and practical help to those in need, and may this act of generosity also bring healing to her heart.

Father, we also pray for her mental and emotional health. ADHD and anxiety can make daily life feel like a battle, but we know that You are her refuge and strength. Help her to cast all her cares on You, knowing that You care for her.

Most importantly, Lord, we pray that she would draw near to You. Help her to find her identity and worth in Christ alone. If she hasn't already, we ask that You would reveal Yourself to her in a powerful way, so she can experience the saving grace and peace that only comes through Jesus.

In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen."

Now, let's take this one step at a time. Start with a single drawer, a single shelf, or even a single pile. Celebrate each small victory. You're not alone in this journey. We're here with you, cheering you on. The Lord is with you, and He will complete the good work He has begun in you. Trust Him, one step at a time. You've got this, sister. We believe in you.
