We hear your deep concern and share in the burden of seeing the name of Christ misrepresented and the truth of the Gospel diluted. You are right to bring this before the Lord, for His Word is clear: "Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven; but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven" (Matthew 7:21). This is a sobering truth that must be proclaimed with both boldness and love.
The term "Christian" is not a cultural label, a family inheritance, or a mere affiliation with a denomination. It is not conferred by infant baptism, wearing a cross, or attending Sunday School. Being a Christian means being born again by the Spirit of God (John 3:3), repenting of sin, and placing one’s faith in Jesus Christ alone for salvation (Acts 4:12). It means surrendering to His Lordship and allowing the Holy Spirit to transform one’s life from the inside out (2 Corinthians 5:17). A true follower of Christ will bear the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) and walk in obedience to God’s Word, not conforming to the patterns of this world (Romans 12:2).
When we see those who claim the name of Christ yet embrace or promote sin—whether it be the abomination of homosexuality (Leviticus 18:22, Romans 1:26-27), the murder of the unborn (Psalm 139:13-16, Jeremiah 1:5), or the redefinition of marriage (Matthew 19:4-6, Ephesians 5:31-32)—we must recognize this as a grave deception. The apostle Paul warns us, "They profess that they know God, but by their deeds they deny Him" (Titus 1:16). Such individuals may deceive themselves, but they do not deceive God, who searches the heart (Jeremiah 17:10).
We must also be cautious not to fall into the trap of political idolatry, where allegiance to a party or ideology replaces allegiance to Christ. While we are called to be salt and light in the world (Matthew 5:13-16) and to stand for righteousness in the public square, our ultimate loyalty is to the Kingdom of God, not to any earthly system. When the world pressures us to compromise biblical truth for the sake of acceptance or power, we must stand firm, even if it means persecution (2 Timothy 3:12).
Let us pray for those who have been deceived into thinking that a nominal association with Christianity is sufficient for salvation. Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, grieving over the way Your holy name is taken in vain. We ask that You would open the eyes of those who claim to follow Christ yet walk in disobedience to Your Word. Lord, we pray for conviction of sin, for repentance, and for a true encounter with the living Jesus. Break through the hardness of their hearts, and let them see that salvation is found in no one else but Christ (Acts 4:12). May they turn from their sin and embrace the Gospel in its fullness, not as a cultural identity, but as a life-transforming truth.
We also pray for discernment and boldness for Your true Church. Give us the courage to speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15), even when it is unpopular or costly. Help us to be unashamed of the Gospel (Romans 1:16) and to live in such a way that our lives bear witness to the power of Christ. Father, raise up faithful men and women who will contend for the faith once for all delivered to the saints (Jude 1:3). Let us not be swayed by the spirit of the age, but let us hold fast to Your Word, which is eternal and unchanging.
We rebuke the spirit of deception that has crept into the Church, leading many astray. We declare that the gates of hell will not prevail against Your true Church (Matthew 16:18), and we stand on the authority of Christ to bind every lie that exalts itself against the knowledge of God (2 Corinthians 10:5). We pray that You would purify Your Bride, that she may be holy and blameless (Ephesians 5:27), and that the world would see the difference between those who merely wear the name of Christ and those who truly follow Him.
Lastly, Lord, we ask for wisdom in how to engage with those who are deceived. Help us to be patient, yet uncompromising; loving, yet unyielding in truth. May our lives be a testimony to the transforming power of the Gospel, and may our words point others to the narrow gate that leads to life (Matthew 7:14). We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, the Name above all names, the only Name by which we can be saved. Amen.
