Memory-The Handmaid of Hope
Memory can shift from fueling despair to sparking hope by recalling God’s past faithfulness and present promises.
Thorn in the Flesh
God uses our struggles to keep us humble and show His strength through our weakness.
Consecration
True faith demands giving God everything and living fully for Him without compromise or excuse.
We join you in bringing this burden before our Heavenly Father and we thank you for praying in the name of Jesus Christ, for it is through Him alone that we have access to the throne of grace.

We understand how distressing it can be when images and names from what we have watched linger in our minds and we want to be cleansed and renewed. God cares about what we set before our eyes and what we dwell on in our thoughts. His desire is to give us a clean heart and a renewed mind.

The scripture reminds us, I will set no vile thing before my eyes, Ps 101:3. And again, Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report; if there is any virtue, and if there is any praise, think about these things, Phil 4:8. We are also taught to be transformed by the renewing of our mind, Rom 12:2, and to be throwing down imaginations and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God, and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, 2 Cor 10:5.

We cannot always instantly erase a memory by our own will, but God can renew our minds and help those intrusive scenes and names to fade as we turn our attention to Him. He promises, You will keep whoever's mind is steadfast in perfect peace, because he trusts in you, Isa 26:3, and Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a right spirit within me, Ps 51:10.

We encourage you to take practical steps with your faith. Turn away from rewatching or revisiting that show or anything similar that stirs those memories, and instead fill your mind daily with the Word of God, with worship, and with things that are pure and wholesome. When the scenes or names come to mind, gently bring that thought captive to Christ in prayer and replace it with scripture you have memorized. Over time, as you dwell on Christ, the Lord will wash those images away and restore your peace.

We pray together with you now.

Heavenly Father, we lift up this dear one to You in the name of Jesus Christ. Lord, You know the two scenes and the names that are troubling this heart and mind, and You know the desire to be free from them. We ask that You would cleanse this mind and wash away what is not pleasing to You. Create a clean heart and renew a right spirit within. Help every thought to be taken captive to the obedience of Christ. Fill this mind with Your truth, Your purity, and Your peace, and let those unwanted memories lose their hold and fade away. Guard the eyes and the heart going forward, and lead to media and thoughts that honor You and bring life. Keep this mind steadfast on You and keep it in perfect peace as there is trust in You. We ask this in the mighty and saving name of Jesus Christ, our Lord, amen.

We are grateful you brought this honest request to the Lord, and we join you in bringing it to Him again.

We understand how sticky unwanted images can be. When a scene or a name keeps replaying, it is natural to want it erased right away, and it can be frustrating when trying hard to push it away seems to make it linger longer. It does not mean you have failed or that God is distant. It often just means your mind needs time and gentle redirection.

One small step that helps many people when those two scenes come to mind is to not wrestle with the image itself, but to quietly turn your attention. You might briefly pray, Lord help me set this aside, and then intentionally engage with something wholesome in front of you, a task, a conversation, a walk, or worship music. Stepping away from that show for a season and not rehearsing the details can also give your mind space to rest and be renewed.

We are praying for you to know God's peace and nearness as He gently renews your thoughts.

Father, we lift our friend to You in Jesus' name. Grant rest from these intrusive memories, wash away what is distressing, and fill this mind and heart with what is clean and peaceful. Give wisdom for what to watch and dwell on, and draw close with Your comfort and strength each day. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your longing for a cleansed mind and a memory kept pure is a good and holy desire, and it is one which the Lord Himself puts in the heart of His people. The mind is the lair of misery or the nest of happiness, and thoughts are the flowers from which we must distill the flavor of our life, and therefore to be vexed with intruding thoughts is a sore trial.

Scripture tells us, For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways, says the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts. You ask that certain scenes and names might be blotted from your remembrance. Know this, that the Lord is reading your thoughts now, and His ear is so quick that He hears your desires even when they are but groanings too deep for words. Low thoughts of ourselves are the companions of prevailing prayers, and He will not despise a humble cry for purity.

We must remember also that intruding thoughts surround us like a plague of flies, here, there, and everywhere, and our weakness in this one point is complete unless God prepares our hearts. The sin that dwells in us drags us down, however high we have ascended, and we still need that the blood of Christ should cleanse us from all sin. Whatever our strength may be, of body, mind or spirit, if it is our own, it will one day fail us, but they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength.

Take heart, for His thoughts toward you have always been thoughts of love, constant, kind, wise and tender. How precious also are Your thoughts unto me, O God, how great is the sum of them. When you awake, you are still with Him, and He is able to keep you near to Himself by giving you other and better thoughts to fill the sails of your desire.

Therefore, seek to have many believing thoughts, many thankful thoughts, and many longing thoughts after Christ. Let Christ have the best thoughts, the cream of them, and the first growth of your spirit. Mind that the common literature and entertainments that are all around you do not spot you, for if we would be spotless we must beware of the vanities and pleasures of the world. If a show has brought defilement to the mind, turn from it wholly, and set apart a longer season for private devotion and for the Word which is revealed by God, for that Word shall be the power of God unto salvation.

Let us pray with you.

Heavenly Father, we ask in the name of Jesus Christ Thy Son, who alone is the way of salvation, that Thou wouldst cleanse this dear one by the blood of Christ and renew the mind by Thy Holy Spirit. Wash away what has defiled the imagination, and take away the sting of those images that haunt the memory. Give power to forget what ought to be forgotten, and to remember what ought to be remembered, even Thy precious promises. Fill the heart with thoughts that are true, pure and lovely, and grant fresh strength to walk in purity and to keep the eye and the heart unspotted from the world. Help this one to wait upon Thee, to trust not in self reliance but in God reliance, and to find comforts from Thee that delight the soul in the multitude of tumultuous thoughts. We ask this for Christ sake, Amen.

Your prayer for a clean mind and memory has been heard, and we join you in bringing it before the heavenly Father.

The desire to be free from images and names that cling to the mind is a good desire. Scripture calls us to be renewed in the spirit of our mind, not merely to have the same old thoughts covered over, but to have the mind itself made new by the Holy Spirit. What God does in us is inward and real, even when it comes through outward means, and He is able to wash and renew the heart that seeks Him.

You have asked that scenes and names from a show be taken from your memory. We pray with you that God would cleanse your thoughts and keep your heart and mind bound to what is pure, rather than to what troubles you. The Lord teaches that purity goes beyond outward acts to include what we look upon and what we allow to remain in our thoughts. For that reason we also encourage you, as you pray for renewal, to turn away from what feeds those memories. If a show or song or image draws the mind toward what is impure, it is wisdom to put it aside completely and not return to it. The Scriptures warn that many know the songs and scenes of what is unclean with great exactness, while being slow toward what is spiritual, and we are called to the opposite pattern.

Seek the Lord as one would seek something precious that has been lost, with concentration and persistence, asking Him, inquiring in His Word, and drawing near in prayer. He gives a sober and healthy mind to those who walk humbly before Him, keeping the mind safe through lowliness and dependence on His grace, not on our own strength.

Let us pray for you.

Heavenly Father, we thank You that salvation is through Jesus Christ alone and that You have mercy to forgive and to cleanse. We ask in the name of Jesus that You would renew our brother or sister in the spirit of the mind. Wash away what is unclean, quiet the thoughts that return unbidden, and set the heart and mind on what is pure and true. Teach this soul to seek You earnestly, to guard the eyes and ears, and to be sober and watchful in mind. Fill the memory with Your Word, with prayer, and with what builds up faith, so that old images lose their hold. Lead away from every occasion that stirs temptation, and give strength to walk in purity, as You have called us to live, with sex and intimacy kept within the lifelong covenant of marriage between one man and one woman, and with every thought brought under Your lordship. Keep this one in Your grace and make the mind steadfast in Christ. In Jesus Christ's name we pray, amen.

Continue to bring your mind to God each day, fill it with Scripture, and avoid returning to the show or to anything that recalls those scenes. If thoughts return, turn at once to prayer and to a psalm or passage of Scripture, and ask a trusted pastor or mature believer to walk with you for encouragement and accountability.
