Jesus Only

The Special Call and the Unfailing Result
We join you in bringing this burden before our Heavenly Father in the name of Jesus Christ, and we thank you for calling upon His name, for it is only through Him that we have access to the throne of grace. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, John 14:6, and there is salvation in no other name.

We understand the desire to have images and memories of these individuals removed from your mind, whether these memories bring pain, temptation, or distress. We hear your heart crying out for peace and for a cleansed mind. While our first instinct may be to ask God to simply erase the past, Scripture teaches us that God more often heals and renews our minds rather than deletes our memories. He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds, Psalm 147:3. He creates in us a clean heart and renews a right spirit within us, Psalm 51:10.

We are called to be transformed by the renewing of our minds, Romans 12:2, and to bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, 2 Corinthians 10:5. This means we do not have to be held captive by intrusive images or lingering memories. God invites us to focus our thoughts on what is pure and healing, as we are told, whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is any praise, think about these things, Philippians 4:8. If these images are connected to lust, past fornication, or an ungodly relationship, we gently encourage you to flee from those things and pursue purity, for God calls us to honor Him with our bodies and our thoughts. If they are connected to hurt, rejection, or anger toward these individuals, we encourage you to release forgiveness as Christ has forgiven us, so that bitterness does not take root.

We pray together for you now.

Heavenly Father, we lift up this dear one to You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. We ask that You would bring healing to their mind and peace to their thoughts. Lord, where there are images that trouble them, we ask that You replace them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Create in them a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within them. Help them to take every thought captive to Your obedience and to fix their mind on what is true and pure and lovely. We ask that You heal any wound associated with these memories and help them to forgive as You have forgiven us. Do not let these memories define them, but let Your grace transform them. We ask that You help them to forget the former things in the sense of not being bound by them, as You have said, Do not remember the former things, and do not consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing, Isaiah 43:18-19. Do a new work in their heart and mind today. We trust You to restore and to make whole. In Jesus Christ's name we pray, amen.

We encourage you to continue to bring these thoughts to the Lord in prayer each time they arise, to immerse yourself in Scripture, and to fill your mind with worship and the Word, trusting that in time God will soften the sting of these memories and grant you His perfect peace.

We hear how tiring it must be to carry those images in your mind and to want them gone. It makes sense you would bring this to the Father so directly and ask for relief.

We have seen that God often brings healing not by instantly erasing a memory, but by meeting us inside the painful moment and slowly loosening its hold. As we invite Christ to be present with us when the image surfaces, the sting and distress around it can soften over time, even while the mind gradually learns to rest elsewhere.

When those pictures come, it can help to pause for a moment, acknowledge what you are feeling, and quietly ask the Lord to be with you right there, then gently turn your attention to something present and wholesome. If you notice the memories feel stuck or overwhelming, it can also be a steady help to walk with a trusted pastor or Christian counselor who can pray with you and support you at a pace that feels safe, with your consent and care.

You are not alone in this, and God is patient and near as you seek His peace day by day.

Father, we lift this dear friend to You. You see the faces and images that trouble their mind and how much they long for quiet. Please draw near in those moments, bring Your comfort and calm, and heal what still hurts. Lead them into rest and fill their thoughts with Your presence and peace. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your prayer has been heard and we bring it before the Lord with you, for He is the healer of the broken in heart and the binder up of wounds.

There are wounds of the mind which are as painful as any wounds of the body, and they urge us to seek the heavenly Physician. You ask that images which trouble you might be taken from your memory. Know then that our strength, whether of body, mind or spirit, if it is our own, will one day fail us, and we need renewing. The sin that dwells in us drags us down, and even when we have walked in the light of God we still need that the blood of Christ should cleanse us from all sin. To those who have no might, He increases strength.

There is abundance of healing power in Jesus Christ and His salvation. Not only is His fruit sweet and nourishing, but the very leaves of the tree of life are for the healing of the nations, and the least thing about Christ is healing. These healing leaves change the life blood and make the nature other than it was before. When Jesus healed the sick of the palsy He first said, Son, be of good cheer, your sins are forgiven you. Pardon and healing were one, and so it is still. First forgiveness, then healing.

It is well to pray as you have prayed, and to plead His promises and plead His nature, for He sees with a mind which is deeply sympathetic and a heart quick to relieve. As He took the fevered one by the hand and lifted her up, so by His touch there is a contact established in which healing comes. You must have this healing from Christ before you can walk with renewed strength.

Therefore let Jerusalem come into your mind. When aches and pains of the soul are upon you, when you linger among painful memories, let the Jerusalem above come into your mind, because Christ is there. In renewing your strength, ask the Lord that you may undertake fresh work and that this work may be done to a nobler tune, with more expectancy, more confidence, more faith, more God reliance.

We pray with you now, heavenly Father, look upon this wounded heart which is vexed in spirit. Forgive all sin through the blood of Jesus Christ, cleanse the conscience, and heal the sorrow of sin. Take away the torment of these images that have fixed themselves in the memory, and renew the mind by Your Spirit. Lift up this dear one as by Your hand, increase strength where there is no might, and let the healing virtue of Christ flow down. Fill the thoughts with Christ and with the hope of the Jerusalem above, that faith may come by hearing Your Word and the memory may be kept in peace. Grant a tender conscience, a willing mind and a yielding spirit, and keep this soul in the light of Your countenance. In Jesus Christ name we ask it, Amen.
