Your prayer has been heard and we have brought it before the Lord with you, asking that He who heals the broken in heart and binds up their wounds would look upon you in mercy.
You ask that the Lord would take away certain things from memory, things that trouble and burden the mind. We understand the pain that clings to remembrance, for the wounds of the spirit are extremely painful and they urge us to seek the heavenly Physician. Know this, that whatever our strength may be, of body, mind or spirit, if it is our own it will one day fail us. We need renewing, because the sin that dwells in us drags us down, and however high we have ascended we still need that the blood of Christ should cleanse us from all sin. The Lord would not have us utterly fail nor fall prone upon the ground, therefore to those who have no might He increases strength.
There is abundance of healing power in Jesus Christ and His salvation. Not only is His fruit sweet and nourishing, but the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations, and the least thing about Christ is healing. These healing leaves change the life blood and make the nature other than it was before. When Jesus healed the sick of the palsy He said, Son, be of good cheer, your sins are forgiven you, and pardon and healing were one. First forgiveness, then healing, is the order of His grace. It is Calvary that is the place for the healing balm, and there the poisoned dart is withdrawn and the wounded heart is bound up.
So we do not ask merely that a thought should be blotted out as writing from a page, but that the sting should be taken away and the memory healed by pardoning love. We have prayed that the Lord would cleanse the conscience through the blood of His Son, quiet the troubled spirit, and renew your strength as you wait upon Him, that you may undertake fresh work and do it to a nobler tune, with more expectancy, more confidence, more faith, more God reliance.
Let Jerusalem come into your mind. When aches and pains are upon you, when memories press sore, when you linger under a burden, let the Jerusalem above come into your mind, because Christ is there. And take heed how you hear, that you hear attentively and retentively and gratefully, for faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. Fix the whole mind upon Christ and His promises, and plead His nature and His finished work.
We pray now for you.
Heavenly Father, look upon this soul who comes in the name of Jesus Christ. Thou knowest the two things that lie heavy on the memory and the distress that is asked to be removed. Forgive sin through the blood of Christ, heal the broken heart, and let the leaves of the tree of life bring healing to this wounded spirit. Renew strength where strength has failed, lift up by Thy touch as Thou didst take her by the hand and lift her up, and give peace that passes understanding. Let Christ and the Jerusalem above come into the mind day by day, and turn the gloomy night to morn. Grant a tender conscience, a willing mind, and a yielding spirit, and keep this one in Thy perfect keeping. In Jesus Christ name we ask it. Amen.
