You cry out for deliverance from demonic memories, possession, and evil spirits, and you do well to flee to Mount Zion, for there is deliverance at all times. Upon that holy hill, the house of Jacob possesses their possessions through holiness of heart and life. A memory of music that haunts you, these are the fiery darts of the wicked one, arrows shot from hell to make you doubt your Father’s love. Look the thing in the face; see if the cloven foot does not peep out. Satan would keep you bound in the dark chambers of old sins, but remember: He that is in Christ discerneth spirits, and the spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. You are not left to the pitiless sea of despair. The Lord has not forsaken them that seek Him; he is gracious, full of free favor, unto those who come to him, though they be as full of sin as an egg is full of meat.
Yet take heed: deliverance from the guilt of sin is as much the work of God as deliverance from the power of sin. If you would be rid of these invading memories, you must possess a deeper holiness. It will not do to simply cast out a thought; the house must be filled with the Spirit, or the unclean spirit returns with seven others. Therefore, arise, go over this Jordan, and take possession of the whole territory of divine grace. Let the Holy Spirit make rare music for you upon the harp of three strings, a new song of deliverance that drowns out the old dirges of the pit. For there is a ransom found; the Eternal Son has paid it, and if he has made you free, you shall be free indeed.
As for your cry concerning the soul of a certain man and the people around him, and those at the charities, it is a right instinct to plead for their salvation. But remember, we desire honor from the Lord in conversions. Pray, yes; but the Church must be a sanctuary where God reveals himself, and we must declare the works of the Lord. He that has been delivered from the pit of hell through a ransom, as you have been, must live to tell it. A person who has no experience of tribulation, what great deliverance has he to speak of? By your testimony, some poor sinner may learn that the clock of mercy can strike the hour of deliverance for them, even as it did for you.
Trust not in any arm of flesh, not in Catholic charities, nor in any other human institution, but in the living Christ alone. Salvation is of the Lord; he delivers us from the power of darkness and translates us into the kingdom of his dear Son. If these souls are to be saved, it will be by a divine subduction from that Egypt, and the Lamb must be slain for their redemption. Go on, then, with your petition, but labor with your life to be an instrument of that deliverance. Take possession of your inheritance in Christ, and he will cause you to dwell in holiness, where no demonic sound can echo again. You shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.
