My mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease two years ago. My father is 84 years old and her only caregiver. He doesn’t want to place her in a nursing home, but he needs help. My relatives are not comfortable being around my mother and avoid the situation. I live out of town, however, I visit my parents once a month to help as much as I can. My brother and his wife live close to my parents but refuse to help when my father declined to turn all of his assets over to my brother. No one ever visits my parents. My brother doesn’t visit, call, send a meal … Nothing. It’s very sad. They have written hateful letters to me accusing me of taking my parents belongings and doing terrible things that aren’t’ true. I never take anything from my parents; instead I buy them clothes, food, prescription etc. My brother and his wife have always treated my parents poorly, I shouldn’t be surprised that this is how they are behaving. It would take a miracle for the Lord to soften their hearts and full them with love and compassion.

I wish i would say something to you to make you feel better. I will pray for you right now. My pray is for your brother and his wife to be touched by God and to open their eyes to you and your parents. I pray for God to give you the strength to keep taking care of your parents. God bless you.

Dear Lord,

It is hard to face the reality of an aging parent. May they face this reality Lord, and learn to accept this part of life. To avoid any regrets later in life, Lord gather your childern involved in this situation and may they work together and put their elderly parents first. To provide them comfort and care for the parents are limited on time with them. May they find the quality of life to accomdate to their parents. Equip them with knowlege and the know how to become good and compassionate caregivers. And may their parents start to enjoy their lives with the one's they love and be independant as much as they can. Lord show they the way and may they all come together work as a team. Only you can make this happen my Lord for you are good. Amen.

I pray that your family comes around. This is the most difficult time for you especially since you are not living close to them. I pray that our Lord comforts you. I lost my mother at 90yrs old 3 years ago and then my father the same year, he was 86. One day your relatives will realize that life is very short and you cannot get them back. I was all too busy with my own life at the time and took little time to care for my parents, because of my busy schedule. They are gone now and I miss them dearly, the guilt I feel now is extremely heavy. I cannot get them back and give them the time that they deserve. I pray that you will find comfort in what you are doing for your parents. God will bless you for everything you do for them. He will make you life easier to bear in the future, knowing that you did the best you possibly could for them. You will find the strength as you ask Jesus to help you through the days that sometimes seem very long. Cherish every moment with them, even through the frustration that comes sometimes daily. Our Lord will bless you and the Angels will watch over your mom, your dad and you. In Jesus' name I pray you find peace. (take a few pictures of them to keep close to you).... Our Lord will bless you....

Thank you very much for your prayers. My heart was touched when you shared your personal experience. I'm sorry to hear about your losses. I can relate to the difficulties you must have gone through, worrying about your parents but also trying to focus on your own family and your life. Being torn in different directions can be hard. I'm sure your parents know how much you love them and I am also sure they are celebrating together with our Lord in Heaven.

God Bless you,

Laura
