Shalom Paul says that we should provide for ourselves with our own hands so as not to become a "burden" to anyone (2 Thessalonians 3:7–12). I am employed, but my expenses (rent, child support, debts, etc.) consume almost everything, leaving me living literally hand-to-mouth. Could you please pray that God blesses the work of my hands—blessing me abundantly so that I have more than enough, as stated in 2 Corinthians 9:8—in Jesus' name? Thank you, and God bless you in Jesus' name!

We thank you for sharing your heart with us and for your desire to honor God through the work of your hands. We hear your burden and we join with you in seeking the Lord's blessing and provision, for we know how difficult it is to labor faithfully and still live hand to mouth when rent, child support, debts and daily needs consume nearly all that comes in.

We commend you for your diligence and for taking to heart what Paul taught in 2 Thessalonians 3:10-12 that if anyone will not work, neither let him eat, and that we should work with quietness and eat our own bread. Your faithfulness to work and to provide for your responsibilities, including your child, is honorable before God, for 1 Timothy 5:8 reminds us that if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially his own household, he has denied the faith. God sees your labor and your faithfulness.

We also rejoice that you are looking to God's promise in 2 Corinthians 9:8 where it is written, God is able to make all grace abound to you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work. We understand your prayer is not from greed but from a desire for shalom and abundance so that you are not merely surviving but have more than enough to live in peace, to be free from the pressure of debt, and to abound in generosity and good works. This aligns with God's heart, for He desires to establish the work of our hands.

We encourage you to continue to seek Him first as you labor. Matthew 6:33 says, But seek first God's Kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. And Philippians 4:19 assures us, My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. As you seek Him, we also encourage you with wisdom for stewardship, for Proverbs 21:5 says, The plans of the diligent surely lead to profit, and Proverbs 10:4 says, The hand of the diligent brings wealth. We pray that God will give you wisdom in budgeting, in managing debts, and in seeking godly counsel so that what He provides is multiplied and guarded, and that He will open doors for increase, favor, and opportunity in your employment.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, thanking You for this dear one who works diligently with his own hands and desires to not be a burden to anyone. Lord, You see the weight of rent, child support, debts and daily expenses, and You know the weariness of living hand to mouth. We ask in Jesus' name that You bless the work of his hands abundantly. Let Your favor rest upon him as Psalm 90:17 declares, Let the favor of the Lord our God be on us. Establish the work of our hands for us. Yes, establish the work of our hands.

Father, we ask that You cause him to have all sufficiency in all things and to abound to every good work according to 2 Corinthians 9:8. Open the windows of heaven over his labor, grant him increase, wisdom, and opportunity, and help him to owe no one anything except love as taught in Romans 13:8. Give him shalom, peace in his home and heart, and provision that is more than enough so he can provide generously, give cheerfully, and live free from anxiety. Teach him and guide him in stewardship and contentment, and let him experience Your promise that You will supply every need according to Your riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

We thank You, Lord, that You hear us when we pray in Jesus' name, for there is no other name by which we are saved and have access to Your throne of grace. We trust You to answer according to Your perfect will and timing. We pray this with thanksgiving in Jesus' name, Amen.

We encourage you to remain faithful, to keep your hands diligent, to pray continually over your work and finances, and to trust that God who is faithful will establish your steps and bring you into a place of abundance and peace for His glory.

There is much that is commendable in your desire to provide for yourself with your own hands and not to be a burden to others, for so the apostle taught and so an honest conscience desires to walk. Your burden has been heard, that though you are employed, your rent and debts and the provision for your child consume almost all that comes in, leaving you to live hand to mouth.

Let us pray together that the Lord who made heaven and earth would bless the work of your hands. He has blessed his people just where they needed blessing, where they were poorest, and no spiritual or temporal blessing comes by chance but from his gracious hand. May he in his mercy grant you not only sufficiency for your daily need but abundance for every good work, as it is written that God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work.

We entreat the Lord that he would prosper your honest labour, give you wisdom in stewardship, deliver you from the weight of debt, and open doors for provision that you may have more than enough and yet be kept humble and faithful. May the double blessing of grace and peace which comes from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ rest upon you, and may your life be kept to the glory of him who gives you life. We ask that you may be kept from murmuring and be tuned to bless the Lord with all that is within you, and that having received his blessing you may yourself be made a blessing to others.

I have heard your request and I thank you for sharing it so honestly. You are working with your own hands as Paul instructs, not wanting to be a burden to others, and yet rent, child support and debts consume almost everything and leave you living hand to mouth. God sees this labor and this pressure, and it is right to bring it to Him in prayer.

The passages you mention need to be understood together. Paul does call us to work faithfully, and in 2 Corinthians 9:8 he does speak of abundance, but he explains what that abundance is for. He says it is so that having all sufficiency in all things we may abound to every good work. The sufficiency God gives is daily bread, what is needed for life and health, not provision to fulfill every desire. We ask for enough so that we can live responsibly, meet our obligations, and have something to share for good, not to store up riches that perish.

Scripture often distinguishes between earthly and spiritual blessings. The greatest riches God pours out are spiritual, forgiveness, adoption as sons, hope of life with Christ, and those cannot be measured in money. Even faithful men like Jacob could say that few and difficult were his days in this life, while the true fulfillment of blessing waited in what is to come. This does not mean God is indifferent to your daily need. He fed the multitudes after they had been with Him three days and had nothing left, showing that He knows when we are in want. But He teaches us to seek first sufficiency for what is necessary and to use what He provides with wisdom, not to kindle a desire for more and more.

So let me pray for you in the way Scripture guides us to pray.

Father in heaven, in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, I lift up this brother who labors with his hands. You know his work, his rent, his responsibility to his children, and the weight of his debts. Grant him sufficiency for each day, wisdom to steward what You provide, strength to continue in honest labor, and release from burdens that press him down. Provide for his needs according to Your goodness, and guard his heart from anxiety and from the love of money which brings many sorrows. Make his work fruitful so that he may have enough to live, to pay what he owes, to care for his family, and to abound in every good work toward others, as You have promised. Fill him most of all with the abundance of spiritual blessings, peace, contentment, hope and confidence in Your care, and keep him looking to the lasting riches that do not perish. Lead him to counsel and help where it is needed for his finances, and sustain him in faithfulness day by day. I ask this in Jesus name, Amen.

Continue to work faithfully, to seek wise counsel for budgeting and debts where you can, and to trust God for daily provision. May He give you contentment with sufficiency and a heart that abounds in doing good with what He supplies.
