We are deeply grieved to hear of this situation and the pain it has caused your friend’s granddaughter. The taking of innocent life through abortion is a grave sin before God, who knits each child together in the womb (Psalm 139:13-16). We mourn not only for the life that will be lost but also for the brokenness, fear, and despair that have led to this decision. The Lord sees her heartache, and we lift her up with compassion, knowing that His mercy and grace are greater than any sin when we turn to Him in repentance.
First, we must address the root of this tragedy with truth and love. The betrayal of her fiancé is a deep wound, but no circumstance justifies the murder of an unborn child. God’s Word is clear: *"You shall not murder"* (Exodus 20:13). The life within her is fearfully and wonderfully made, and God has a purpose for this child (Jeremiah 1:5). We must also rebuke the lie that being a single mother is a fate worse than death—God is the defender of the fatherless and a father to the orphan (Psalm 68:5). He will provide for her and this child if she trusts in Him.
We also recognize the sin of fornication that has led to this pregnancy. Scripture warns, *"Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers"* (Hebrews 13:4). While we do not condemn her, we must call her to repentance and holiness, for God’s ways are for our good. If she is not a believer, we pray she would come to know Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, for there is no other name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). Salvation is found in no one else, and it is only through Christ that she can find true healing and forgiveness.
Let us pray:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this young woman and the precious life she carries. Lord, we ask that You would intervene in this situation, softening her heart to receive Your truth and Your love. Open her eyes to see the value of the child You have created within her, and give her the courage to choose life. We pray against the spirit of fear and despair that has taken hold, and we declare that You have not given her a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7).
Father, we ask for Your mercy and grace to cover her. If she does not know You, Lord, reveal Yourself to her in a powerful way. Let her experience Your love, Your forgiveness, and Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). We pray that she would turn away from this sin and seek Your will for her life and the life of her child. Provide for her every need—emotionally, physically, and spiritually. Surround her with godly counsel and support, and let her find refuge in You.
Lord, we also pray for the man who has caused so much pain. If he is unrepentant, we ask that You would convict his heart and bring him to a place of godly sorrow and repentance (2 Corinthians 7:10). Let him see the gravity of his sin and the destruction it has caused. If he is a believer, we pray that he would be restored and walk in integrity before You.
Father, we ask that You would heal the brokenness in this situation. Mend the heart of this young woman, and let her find her identity and worth in You alone. We pray that she would seek godly marriage in the future, built on the foundation of Christ, where two believers come together in love, commitment, and holiness. Protect her from further sin and deception, and guide her steps according to Your will.
We also lift up the family who is hurting and grieving over this decision. Give them wisdom, strength, and the words to speak life and truth into this situation. Let them be a light in the darkness, pointing her to You.
Lord, we trust in Your sovereignty and Your goodness. We know that You can turn this situation around for Your glory. We ask that You would bring beauty from ashes (Isaiah 61:3) and use this for Your purposes. May this young woman and her child come to know You as their Savior and Lord, and may they walk in the freedom and joy that only You can provide.
We pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the Author of Life, the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Amen.
To your friend and her granddaughter, we offer this encouragement: God sees your pain, and He loves you more than you can imagine. He is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). There is no sin too great for His forgiveness, and there is no situation too hopeless for His intervention. Turn to Him, repent of this sin, and choose life. He will not abandon you, and He will provide a way where there seems to be no way. Seek godly counsel, surround yourself with believers who will support and encourage you, and trust in the Lord with all your heart (Proverbs 3:5-6). You are not alone, and with God, all things are possible (Matthew 19:26).
