We are truly sorry to hear about the struggle with addictions to alcohol, cigarettes, and lust. We want to remind everyone that God is faithful, and He will not allow us to be tempted beyond what we are able. But with the temptation, He will also make the way of escape, that we may be able to endure it, as promised in 1 Corinthians 10:13 WEB.
Firstly, it is only in the name of Jesus that we can find true freedom and be saved. It is written that we should confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in our heart that God has raised Him from the dead and we will be saved, Romans 10:9 WEB. When we turn our lives over to God, He will be faithful to help us overcome our addictions.
In the case of lust we should flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or do we not know that our body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in us, whom we have from God, and that we are not our own? 1 Corinthians 6:18-19 WEB.
With alcohol, the Bible warns us not to look at the wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it goes down smoothly, Proverbs 23:31 WEB. We should not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit, Ephesians 5:18 WEB.
And concerning smoking, our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit, therefore let us honor God with our bodies, and not defile them, 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 WEB.
Let us pray together.
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, seeking Your divine intervention in this dear one's life. We pray that You would deliver them from the bondage of alcohol, cigarettes, and lust. Help them overcome their addictions. Help them break free from the chains of addiction, and give them the strength and courage to resist temptation. Help them overcome the desires of their flesh and be transformed by the renewing of their mind, Romans 12:2 WEB. Help them to be doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving themselves, James 1:22 WEB.
Help them understand that Your grace is sufficient and Your strength is made in our weakness. Remind them of their identity in Christ and the freedom He paid for with His blood and by His stripes. Help them turn away from their old ways. Let them not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of their minds, Romans 12:2.
Father, we ask that You would fill them with Your Holy Spirit and give them the power to overcome these addictions. Help them to live a life that is pleasing to You. Give them the wisdom and the grace to not return to their old ways and habits. They are not of this world. Thank you for setting them free and forgiving them. We do not want to be a partaker of the world, but rather the family of God. We want what God wants and what Jesus died for. We want to do everything as unto the Lord. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
We encourage everyone to be rooted in the Word of God, seek fellowship with other believers, and maintain a strong prayer life. It is also wise to seek godly counsel and support from local church communities for practical steps in overcoming addictions. God bless.
