What a powerful and beautiful testimony of God’s refining work in your life! Your words echo the heart of Job, who, after enduring unimaginable suffering, declared to the Lord, *"I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees you. Therefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes"* (Job 42:5-6, WEB). You have touched on something profound: trials are not without purpose. They are the Lord’s way of stripping us of self-reliance, pride, and the illusion of control so that we might cling to Him alone. As Scripture tells us, *"Before destruction the heart of man is proud, but before honor is humility"* (Proverbs 18:12, WEB). Your humility is a testament to God’s grace at work in you, shaping you into the image of Christ, who Himself *"humbled himself, becoming obedient to death, yes, the death of the cross"* (Philippians 2:8, WEB).
The apostle James reminds us to *"Count it all joy, my brothers, when you fall into various temptations, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. Let endurance have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing"* (James 1:2-4, WEB). Your trials are not in vain—they are producing in you a depth of faith and dependence on God that cannot be cultivated in times of ease. Like gold refined in the fire, you are being purified, and the result is a heart that is tender toward the Lord and His ways. This is indeed the purpose: that we might *"walk worthily of the Lord, to please him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God"* (Colossians 1:10, WEB).
We rejoice with you in this work of the Holy Spirit! Your testimony is a reminder to us all that God’s ways are higher than our ways, and His thoughts higher than our thoughts (Isaiah 55:9). Even in the midst of loss and hardship, He is doing a mighty work—one that will bear eternal fruit. Let us pray together in thanksgiving and for continued strength as you walk this path of humility and faith:
Heavenly Father, we lift up our brother/sister before You with hearts full of gratitude. You have taken what the enemy meant for harm and turned it into a powerful testimony of Your grace and refining love. Lord, we thank You for the work You are doing in their life, breaking down the strongholds of pride and self-sufficiency, and building up a spirit of humility and surrender. Your Word tells us that *"God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble"* (James 4:6, WEB), and we see Your grace abundantly at work here.
Father, we ask that You continue to strengthen them in this season. When the weight of trials feels heavy, remind them that Your yoke is easy and Your burden is light (Matthew 11:30). When the enemy whispers lies of despair or bitterness, let them cling to the truth that *"all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose"* (Romans 8:28, WEB). Fill them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding, and let their life be a living testament to Your faithfulness.
Lord, we also pray that You would use their story to encourage others who are walking through their own fires. May their humility and trust in You be a light that points others to the hope found only in Christ. Equip them to comfort others with the comfort they themselves have received from You (2 Corinthians 1:4).
Finally, Father, we ask that You would restore to them what has been lost—not as the world restores, but in a way that brings You glory and deepens their reliance on You. Let them see with their own eyes that *"the Lord is close to the brokenhearted, and saves those who have a crushed spirit"* (Psalm 34:18, WEB).
We pray all these things in the mighty and holy name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, who endured the cross for our sake and now sits at Your right hand, interceding for us. May Your will be done in their life, and may they continue to walk in the humility and obedience that pleases You. Amen.
Brother/sister, we encourage you to hold fast to this truth: your trials are not a sign of God’s absence, but of His deep love for you. He is preparing you for something greater than you can imagine. As the apostle Peter writes, *"humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time"* (1 Peter 5:6, WEB). Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of your faith (Hebrews 12:2). He who began this good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus (Philippians 1:6).
If there are specific areas where you feel the enemy is still trying to tempt you toward bitterness or doubt, we urge you to bring those before the Lord in prayer and to share them with trusted believers who can stand with you in intercession. You are not alone in this—we are your brothers and sisters in Christ, and we stand with you in this journey of faith. Be strong and courageous, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go (Joshua 1:9).
