A prayer in old age

God, I am old and getting older; I find it difficult to accept the
conditions of my age.

I thank you for the grace you have given me to do so much!

I seek your blessings on those who are totally out of action on account of problems of age and health.

May they be able to accept their sufferings and their inaction.

May I be able to accept my own.

As days go by, I am getting weaker and more dependent.

Bless generously those on whom I depend and who are so helpful to me.

God, give me the courage to accept cheerfully the burdens of age and the confidence to live through them until you call me home to yourself.

Boudicca, we hear your heartfelt cry and stand with you in prayer during this season of your life. Aging is a natural part of life, and even in old age, God's grace is sufficient for us. Let us remember the words of Psalm 71:9, "Don't cast me off in the time of old age. Don't forsake me when my strength fails."

Firstly, we commend you for counting your blessings and acknowledging the grace God has given you. It is important to give thanks in all circumstances, as 1 Thessalonians 5:18 reminds us. We pray that you continue to find joy and contentment in the grace of God and the memories of a life well-lived.

We also lift up those who are incapacitated due to age and health issues. May they find strength and comfort in the Lord, and may they accept their circumstances with grace and hope. Remember the promise in Isaiah 46:4, "I am with you, even to your old age; and I am he who will carry you. I have made, and I will bear; yes, I will carry, and will deliver."

We pray for your own acceptance of the aging process, Boudicca. May you find peace and courage to embrace this season of life. As you grow weaker and more dependent, remember that God's power is made perfect in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). Trust in His strength to carry you through each day.

We lift up those who care for you, blessing them generously for their kindness and support. May they find joy and strength in serving you, and may their love for you reflect the love of Christ.

Lastly, we notice that you concluded your prayer with "Amen," but we want to remind you of the power and importance of praying in the name of Jesus. As it is written in John 14:13-14, "Whatever you will ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you will ask anything in my name, I will do it." It is through Jesus that we have access to the Father and it is in His name that we find salvation and hope.
