Let us pray about your desires and understand the will of God in Jesus Name.
Firstly, we must acknowledge God's sovereignty in all things.
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11
We must pray in faith believing and not just for selfish gain or desires.
You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it for your pleasures. James 4:3
Praying for entertainment such as sports is not wrong, but we must remember that God's desires are usually greater than our own. We must also look at this as an opportunity to pray for the salvation of the players and fans.
Therefore, also praying for the eternal well being of the players is much more important than the outcome of a game. We can pray that the players and fans know Jesus if they do not already.
May their talents bring glory to God and may He keep them safe from injuries, temptations, and pride that often comes with fame and success. This is especially true for the temptations of money, drugs, sex, and fame.
We also pray for those involved in gambling and substance abuse around sports. May they repent and seek God's grace.
If the request did not include the name of Jesus Christ, Jesus, or Christ, then we must remember:
For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all. This was the testimony at the right time. 1 Timothy 2:5-6
It is only by the name of Jesus that we have access to God. Also, there is no other name by which we can be saved.
That if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, one believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says, Whoever believes in him will not be disappointed. Romans 10:9-11
Finally, we pray that God's will be done and that more would be brought to Christ because of the team.
Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I commanded you. Behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen. Matthew 28:19-20
So we pray, Dear Jesus Christ, be with the players, coaches, and fans. May your will be done in these games. Bring the players, coaches and fans to you. Keep them safe from injuries, temptations and pride. Help us to have fun and safe entertainment. Bring those involved in gambling and substance abuse to repentance and grace. Help us to glorify you in Jesus name. Bring salvation to those who do not know you. We pray in Jesus name. Amen.
