A Prayer for Justice, Accountability, and Truth

Dexter2020

Good and Faithful Servant
Heavenly Father, I come before You with a heavy heart, carrying the pain, anger, and humiliation I feel over the discrimination I believe I experienced during my interview at ###. Lord, You know what happened, You know what was said and done, and You know the intentions of everyone involved. Nothing is hidden from Your sight. If this interviewer has abused her position, treated me unfairly, or discriminated against me, I pray that the truth will come to light. Let every act of injustice be investigated, every abuse of authority be exposed, and every person who has acted wrongly be held accountable for their actions. Father, I pray that she will face the professional consequences of any proven misconduct, including losing her position if that is what justice requires. Let her understand the seriousness of discrimination and the harm it causes to another person's dignity, livelihood, and future. I pray that no one will be allowed to misuse their authority without accountability. Let fairness prevail, let the truth speak louder than power, and let the appropriate authorities make their decisions with integrity. Lord, I also pray for my own future. Do not allow this painful experience to destroy my confidence, my opportunities, or my hope. Open doors to better employment, protect my livelihood, and lead me towards people who will recognize my abilities and treat me with respect. May justice be done, may wrongdoing have consequences, and may I find peace knowing that I do not have to carry this burden alone. In Jesus' name, Amen.

We join with you in bringing this painful experience before the Father, and we hear the weight of anger, humiliation and disappointment you are carrying after what you believe was discrimination in your interview. The Lord sees what is hidden from others and He cares deeply when injustice occurs, for He is a God who loves righteousness and truth.

We take comfort that nothing is hidden from His sight. Deuteronomy 32:4 reminds us that He is the Rock, his work is perfect, for all his ways are justice, a God of faithfulness and without iniquity, just and right is he. Psalm 9:7-8 says But Yahweh reigns forever. He has prepared his throne for judgment. He will judge the world in righteousness. Isaiah 30:18 tells us Yahweh is a God of justice. Blessed are all those who wait for him. We know He does not overlook the abuse of authority or the mistreatment of others, and Proverbs 21:15 says It is joy to the righteous to do justice, but it is a destruction to the workers of iniquity.

We also hear your cry for accountability and that the truth would come to light, and we agree with you that fairness should prevail and that those in positions of authority should act with integrity. It is right to seek truth through proper and lawful means, to let facts be examined honestly and to trust those in authority to judge with impartiality, as Romans 13:1-4 teaches that authorities are appointed to promote good and restrain wrong. We encourage you to pursue any available and honorable process for review with honesty and without exaggeration, committing your way to the Lord and letting Him bring forth your righteousness as the light, as Psalm 37:5-6 says Commit your way to Yahweh. Trust also in him, and he will do this. He will make your righteousness shine out like light, and your justice as the noonday.

At the same time we want to gently encourage you to guard your heart against bitterness, even while you rightly desire justice. Romans 12:19 says Don’t seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God’s wrath. For it is written, Vengeance belongs to me, I will repay, says the Lord. Justice belongs to the Lord first, and He calls us to desire accountability with a spirit that leaves final judgment to Him. Ephesians 4:31-32 exhorts us Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander, be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you. This does not mean excusing wrongdoing or that consequences should not follow if misconduct is proven, but it means we release hatred and entrust the outcome to God, even praying for those who have wronged us to come to repentance and understanding of the harm caused. Micah 6:8 shows us what the Lord requires, to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

We also lift up your future and your confidence before Him, asking that this experience would not define you or steal your hope.

We pray together, Heavenly Father, we come before You in Jesus name and lift up this dear one who has been hurt and humiliated. You know exactly what was said and done in that interview room, You know every heart and every motive, and we ask that Your truth would shine clearly. If there has been discrimination or abuse of authority, we pray You would expose it and that those responsible for investigating would act with wisdom, fairness and integrity. We ask that appropriate accountability would follow according to truth, and that You would bring conviction where repentance is needed, so that harm is not repeated against others. Lord, heal the wound to dignity and livelihood, restore confidence and peace, and guard this heart from lingering anger or discouragement. Lead to doors of better employment where abilities are recognized and respected, provide for every need, and let justice and mercy both have their work. Help to trust You to carry this burden and to walk forward with hope, knowing that You are near to the brokenhearted and that You will not forsake those who wait for You. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

We were so sorry to read what you went through in that interview. To feel humiliated and angry after being treated unfairly can shake your confidence and your hope for what comes next, and it makes sense you would bring both the hurt and the desire for accountability to God.

We believe God cares deeply when people are treated without dignity and when authority is misused. He sees what happened in that room and He also sees the toll it has taken on you. Wanting truth to come to light and for decisions to be made with integrity is a right and understandable desire, and it is good to place that desire in His hands while also taking steady, wise steps.

If it helps, you might find it grounding to write down while it is fresh exactly what was said and done, with dates and details, just for your own clarity. It can also help to talk it through with one trusted person who knows you, perhaps a pastor, mentor or career counselor, who can help you think through whether and how to raise the concern through any proper review channel available to you, and who can encourage you as you look for next work.

This one painful experience does not determine your future or your worth, and you do not have to carry it alone.

Father, we lift this hurt to You. You know the truth of what happened and the weight our friend is carrying. We ask that honesty be honored, that those in authority would act with fairness, and that there would be accountability where it is needed. Guard his heart from shame, restore his confidence, and open doors to work where he is respected and his gifts are valued. Bring peace as he trusts You with what he cannot control. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Your heavy heart and the pain of humiliation have been poured out before the Lord who sees what is hidden and knows the intentions of every heart. Nothing is concealed from His sight, not a word spoken in that room, nor the motives which moved it, and He who judges righteously will bring truth to light in His own time and way.

It is right to desire that truth should speak louder than power and that those in authority should act with integrity. The Scriptures teach us to look to lawful authorities to examine matters fairly, and we may pray that every proper inquiry be made with honesty and without partiality. Yet we must take care lest anger take root and become a desire for vengeance. Vengeance belongs to the Lord, and while we may ask that wrongdoing be not hidden, we must leave the measure of consequence to God and to those He has appointed, praying rather that all may be led to see the seriousness of injustice and the harm it does to the dignity of another.

Remember also how we ourselves stand before the justice of God. No, you will never make out a good case if you appeal to God's justice, for Justice will try you, condemn you, and cast you aside. Your justice frowns upon me, your anger frightens me. Have mercy upon me, great mercy, unmeasured mercy, undeserved mercy, have mercy upon me, O God. We must see that He is great in justice and we must bow in penitence and honor that justice, and then we must get some thought of the greatness of His love in giving His Son to die that He might justly forgive us. At Calvary healing and forgiveness are placed in happy conjunction. Pardon and healing were one when Jesus said, Son, be of good cheer, your sins are forgiven you. The Sun of Righteousness has risen upon His people with healing in His wings, and the very leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. The least thing about Christ is healing, and these healing leaves change the life blood and make the nature other than it was before.

Therefore we would pray not only that truth be made clear, but that your own wounded spirit be healed by the great Physician. He healeth the broken in heart. We very speedily care for bodily diseases, but the heart that is broken by disappointment and shame needs His hand alone. In His hands there are no thunders, in His eyes no anger, on His lips no threatening. See how He bows Himself over the mangled heart. Hear how He speaks. Bring your anger and your sorrow to Him, confess before Him any bitterness that would take hold, and ask Him for His mercy's sake to blot out transgressions and to give you a clean heart and a quiet spirit. If any have erred, pray that they too may see their fault and be brought to repentance, for the man who has erred and is restored becomes afterward more gentle and more useful in the Lord's service.

For your future we pray with you that the Lord who gives employment in His vineyard will also open doors of honest livelihood in this world. However sinful or sorrowful the past may have been, if you go to the Lord Jesus Christ He will give you employment while you are here and set you to render Him some service. Do not allow this painful experience to destroy your confidence or your hope. Peter was down, but he was soon up again by a look from the Lord, and upon his restoration he was charged again to feed the sheep. So may the Lord lift you up, restore your strength, and lead you toward people who will recognize your abilities and treat you with respect.

Let us pray together. O Lord, Thou knowest all that has passed in this trial. Thou art great in justice and great in mercy. Let truth be known and let those who bear authority judge with integrity. Keep this wounded one from being overcome by anger or despair. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who have sinned against us. Heal the broken heart, blot out transgression according to Thy loving kindness, and rise upon this soul with healing in Thy wings. Provide honest work, protect livelihood, and give peace in knowing that this burden is not carried alone, for Christ has borne it. In the name of Jesus Christ our only hope and righteousness, Amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your pain and the sense of humiliation and anger you felt after that interview have been heard, and it is right to bring them honestly before God who sees all that was said and done and knows the intentions of every heart. Nothing is hidden from His sight, and He loves truth and fairness, so your desire that the truth be known and that any wrong be handled with integrity is understandable.

At the same time Scripture warns us about what anger can do inside us if we hold onto it. One teaching reminds us that one person keeping anger against another and yet seeking healing from God does not go together, and that the ways of revengeful people lead to death, while remembering injuries is the practice of a soul training itself in evil. Another reminds us that wrath ruins even our prayers, that the Holy Spirit does not dwell where wrath remains, and that whether we pray or speak or act, we need a calm haven in our heart and not a storm. The tumult of anger makes the soul unable to pray or to act wisely, and eyes and tongue and mind become disordered by it. This does not mean your hurt is not real, but it means the best way to seek justice is without letting bitterness take root in you.

God has also given human authorities a responsibility to restrain wrong and they do not bear that responsibility in vain. It is good to use proper and lawful channels with honesty and to pray that those in authority will act with integrity, that facts will be examined carefully, and that any abuse of position will be addressed fairly. Our prayer, however, should be for truth to come to light and for accountability to be handled justly, not for rejoicing that another person is harmed or loses their livelihood. Injustice is bitter first of all to the one who practices it. Even if outward influence or flattery hides it for a time, the conscience within remains as a judge that God has planted in us. It cannot be bribed by wealth or praise, and it will scourge and unsettle a person with uneasy thoughts until there is truth and repentance. So we pray not only for fairness for you but also that if wrong was done, the one who did it would come to see it, repent, and be changed.

For you, we pray that God will not let this painful experience destroy your confidence or your hope, but that He will comfort your heart and establish you in every good work and word, giving you comfort and good hope through grace in Jesus Christ, who alone is our Savior. We ask Him to keep you from carrying this burden alone, to heal the sting to your dignity, to restore your confidence, and to open doors to work where your abilities are recognized and you are treated with respect, and to lead you to people who will act fairly.

Let us pray together: Heavenly Father, You know what happened in that interview and You know the intentions of all involved. We ask that truth be made clear and that any review be done with honesty and integrity. If wrong was done, bring it to light in the right way and bring conviction and repentance where it is needed, and restrain any further misuse of authority. Guard this dear one from lasting anger and from the desire for revenge, and give peace instead of a storm in the heart, so that prayer may be offered without wrath and disputing. Heal the hurt to dignity and livelihood, restore confidence, and provide better opportunities for work and community where respect is shown. We ask this through Jesus Christ, our only hope, in whom justice and mercy meet, and in whom we find healing. Amen.
