A Man After Gods Own Heart

God looked past David's outward appearance and his human frailties. He looked at his heart. Even though David wasn't a perfect man, he had a true heart for his Lord.

1 Samuel 13:14

The Lord has sought out for Himself a man after His own heart, and the Lord has appointed him as ruler over His people.

1. David loved God with all his heart. He had a true desire in his heart to walk with God and please God. His heart was completely His. We see this in Psalms 103:1 "Bless the Lord, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name".

2. David had a humble heart who never lost sight of the fact that he was nothing, and God was everything to him. He knew all his success came from his Lord. 2 Sam. 7:18 Then David the king went in and sat before the Lord, and he said, Who am I, O Lord God, and what is my house, that You have brought me this far?

3. David had a totally dependent heart on God. David knew he wasn't self sufficient. He sought God continually and openly. David longed for God's presence.

Psalm 63:1-3 O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;

4. David truly had a grateful heart. He gave praise and thanksgiving to God regardless of what his circumstances were. He knew God was worthy of all his praises. Ps. 9:1-2 I will praise thee, O Lord, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works. 2. I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name, O thou most High.

5. David had a repentant heart. When David sinned He repented and sought God for forgiveness. Unlike King Saul, David dealt with his sins and got his heart right with God. Psalm 32:5 "I acknowledged my sin" to You, and "my iniquity I did not hide"; I said,

" I will confess my transgressions to the Lord; and You forgave the guilt of my sin. Selah.

As children of God we should have these same desires David did. God desires us to be a people after His own heart. In order to do that, we must be repentant and confess any sins and ask Him to change our hearts. We must spend time with the Lord each day. Talk to Him, honestly, openly and reverently. Share our burdens with Him, seek His face, always desire to be in His presence,and lovingly be obedient to Him.

Jesus truly wants to be our dearest and closest friend. It's up to you and me to let Him be that friend.
