Loving and gracious God,
As children and young people everywhere return to schools, colleges and universities, begin new courses, enter new classrooms, or continue their educational journeys, we place them all into your loving and protective care.
Watch over every child, young person and student, wherever they may be. Protect them physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. Keep them safe from bullying, intimidation, abuse, violence, exploitation, discrimination, neglect and harm, whether these things occur in person or online.
Be especially close to those who are experiencing physical or emotional difficulties, illness, disability, additional needs, learning difficulties, mental or emotional challenges, family difficulties, grief, loneliness, poverty, insecurity or any other circumstance that may make their educational journey more difficult.
Give them the support, understanding, patience and opportunities they need to flourish. May they never feel defined by a diagnosis, disability, difficulty, mistake or challenge. Help them to recognise their own worth, abilities, gifts and potential.
For those who are bullied or made to feel different, give them courage and protection. Surround them with people who will stand beside them, speak up for them and remind them that they belong.
For those who struggle socially, help them find genuine friendship, acceptance and community. For those who feel anxious, overwhelmed or afraid, bring calm, reassurance and people who will listen without judgement.
For those facing physical challenges or disabilities, help their schools, colleges and universities provide the accessibility, understanding, resources and reasonable support they need to participate fully and confidently.
For those who find learning difficult, give them encouragement rather than shame, patience rather than pressure, and the right people and resources to help them progress.
Lord, may every child and young person have the opportunity not merely to achieve, but to flourish.
Help them to grow in knowledge, wisdom, confidence, resilience, compassion, creativity, independence and understanding. Encourage them to discover their interests, develop their abilities, learn from their experiences and recognise the unique contribution they can make to the world.
May they thrive not only in their education, but in their friendships, families, communities, personal development and lives as a whole. Give them dreams to pursue, courage to overcome obstacles, wisdom to make good choices and resilience to keep going when life becomes difficult.
Remind them that their worth is never determined by grades, examinations, achievements, popularity, appearance, abilities or the opinions of others. May they know that they are valuable simply because they are themselves.
Bless their parents, guardians and carers. Give them patience, wisdom, strength and compassion as they nurture and support the children and young people entrusted to them.
Bless every teacher, tutor, lecturer, teaching assistant, pastoral worker, counsellor, safeguarding professional, administrator, governor and member of education staff. Give them patience with those who struggle, understanding for those whose difficulties may not be immediately visible, and wisdom to recognise when someone needs additional care and support.
Help every adult who works with children and young people to create environments where they feel safe, respected, included, listened to, encouraged and valued.
May our schools, colleges and universities become places where differences are respected, diversity is welcomed, kindness is encouraged and no child is left feeling invisible or forgotten.
Protect every child and young person as they travel to and from education and as they learn, study, socialise and grow. Watch over them in classrooms, playgrounds, corridors, sports fields, laboratories, libraries, residences and online.
Where there is bullying, bring protection and courage.
Where there is loneliness, bring friendship.
Where there is exclusion, bring belonging.
Where there is difficulty, bring support.
Where there is disability, bring accessibility and understanding.
Where there is fear, bring peace.
Where there is sadness, bring comfort.
Where there is confusion, bring guidance.
Where there is failure, bring encouragement.
Where there is uncertainty, bring hope.
And above all, Lord, help every child and young person to grow, develop, flourish and thrive.
May they be given the freedom and support to become the people they are capable of becoming. May their education open doors rather than create barriers, build confidence rather than diminish it, and nurture not only their minds but their hearts, character and wellbeing.
Guide them through every season of their lives. Protect them from what would harm them, strengthen them through what challenges them, and surround them with people who genuinely want to see them succeed and flourish.
May they leave each stage of their education not only with knowledge and qualifications, but with greater confidence, wisdom, compassion, resilience, self-belief and hope for the future.
May every child and young person everywhere have the opportunity to learn, grow, develop, flourish and thrive—not only in education, but throughout their entire lives.
Amen.
