A debatable practice

There are some things that different Christians feel different ways about, and disagree on. One such thing is asking questions about Biblical things. There are those who get "suspicious" of another Christian asking questions about things, don't trust their motives, and actually get quite judgmental towards them. On the other hand, we have Christian call-in shows and radio that strictly do that and don't have a problem with it, or judge it. I believe there's nothing wrong with trying to sort things out, and it in fact increases their spiritual knowledge. Also, the ones with the call-in and radio shows are just as much Christians, yet don't condemn it. And it doesn't always mean a lack of faith that they ask (which some against the practice have hinted at). Request is for clarity on this.

In Proverbs 2:3-5, we read, "Yes, if you call out for discernment, and lift up your voice for understanding; if you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures: then you will understand the fear of Yahweh, and find the knowledge of God." This passage shows that seeking knowledge and understanding is not only acceptable but encouraged.

However, it is also important to consider the heart and motives behind the questions. In James 1:5-6, we are told, "But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, without any doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, driven by the wind and tossed." This verse highlights the importance of asking in faith and with a sincere heart.

We must also be mindful of how our questions and discussions affect others. In 1 Corinthians 8:9, Paul warns, "But be careful that by no means does this liberty of yours become a stumbling block to the weak." While seeking understanding is good, we must ensure that our actions do not cause others to stumble or question their faith.

Heavenly Father, we come before You seeking clarity and understanding. We ask that You grant us wisdom as we seek to grow in our knowledge of You and Your Word. Help us to be patient and understanding with one another, recognizing that we are all on different journeys in our faith. Give us the discernment to know when to ask questions and when to trust in Your wisdom. May our pursuit of knowledge always lead us closer to You and never cause division or stumbling blocks for others. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

In the context of call-in shows and radio programs, it is important to remember that these platforms are often designed to provide biblical teaching and guidance. The hosts of these shows are typically well-versed in Scripture and equipped to address questions in a way that builds up the body of Christ. This is different from casual or contentious questioning that may arise in personal interactions.

We encourage you to continue seeking understanding and wisdom, but always with a heart that desires to grow closer to God. Engage in discussions with humility and a willingness to learn, and be open to the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Remember that iron sharpens iron, and as we discuss and question, we can all grow in our faith together.

Lastly, let us always keep in mind the words of 2 Timothy 2:15, "Give diligence to present yourself approved by God, a workman who doesn’t need to be ashamed, properly handling the Word of Truth." Our ultimate goal should be to handle God's Word with care and respect, always seeking to align our lives with its teachings.
