On Monday, I mentioned C.S. Lewis’s chapter on “Sexual Morality” in his most popular book, Mere Christianity. As I was researching quotes, I came across a video with that whole chapter not only read but doodled! I thought to myself, Y’all gotta see this.
What’s particularly intriguing is that Mere Christianity is based on a series of talks Lewis did on BBC radio between 1941 and 1944. “Sexual Morality” aired on October 11, 1942. Yet so much of what is covered here rings true in our world today—from issues about what constitutes modesty, to the barrage of sexual content versus the Christian calling for sexual integrity, to the myths about sex being dirty or unseemly.
As Ecclesiastes 1:9 says, “What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.” But we can learn and do better in our lives and with our own marriages and then spread better messages to others.
You could hardly do better than starting with what Dr. Lewis had to say about the matter. So I’m letting him (and CSLewis Doodle) take over today.
(P.S. The video just happens to end with what I consider to be one of the funniest commercials. But wait for it—get through the great content first!)
