Proverbs, Chapter 27

27:1 Don't boast yourself of tomorrow; For you don't know what a day may bring forth.

27:2 Let another man praise you, and not your own mouth; A stranger, and not your own lips.

27:3 A stone is heavy, and the sand weighty; But a fool's vexation is heavier than both of them.

27:4 Wrath is cruel, and anger is overwhelming; But who is able to stand before jealousy?

27:5 Better is open rebuke Than love that is hidden.

27:6 Faithful are the wounds of a friend; But the kisses of an enemy are profuse.

27:7 The full soul loathes a honeycomb; But to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.

27:8 As a bird that wanders from her nest, So is a man who wanders from his place.

27:9 Oil and perfume rejoice the heart; So does the sweetness of a man's companion [that comes] of hearty counsel.

27:10 Your own companion, and your father's companion, do not forsake; And don't go to your brother's house in the day of your calamity: Better is a neighbor who is near than a brother far off.

27:11 My son, be wise, and make my heart glad, That I may answer him who reproaches me.

27:12 A prudent man sees the evil, [and] hides himself; [but] the simple pass on, [and] suffer for it.

27:13 Take his garment that is surety for a stranger; And hold him in pledge [who is surety] for a foreign woman.

27:14 He who blesses his fellow man with a loud voice, rising early in the morning, It will be counted a curse to him.

27:15 A continual dropping in a very rainy day And a contentious woman are alike:

27:16 He who would restrain her restrains the wind; And his right hand encounters oil.

27:17 Iron sharpens iron; So a man sharpens the countenance of his fellow man.

27:18 Whoever keeps the fig-tree will eat its fruit; And he who regards his master will be honored.

27:19 As in water face [answers] to face, So the heart of man to man.

27:20 Sheol and Abaddon are never satisfied; And the eyes of man are never satisfied.

27:21 The refining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold; And a man is [tried] by his praise.

27:22 Though you should bray a fool in a mortar with a pestle along with bruised grain, Yet his foolishness will not depart from him.

27:23 Be diligent to know the state of your flocks, [And] look well to your herds:

27:24 For riches are not forever: And does the crown endure to all generations?

27:25 The hay is carried, and the tender grass shows itself, And the herbs of the mountains are gathered in.

27:26 The lambs are for your clothing, And the goats are the price of the field;

27:27 And [there will be] goats' milk enough for your food, for the food of your household, And maintenance for your maidens.

The following discussion is from the January Reading of This Chapter of Proverbs at ericasp.com:

Proverb 27 begins with the instruction to not entrust completely to our own plans. Our hearts may devise our plans, but God ultimately directs our steps. We do not know what tomorrow may hold. Verse two tells us to avoid self-praise and being boastful. Praise is good from someone, but not of yourself. A stone is heavy in the literal sense, as in material weight, but wrath is figuratively heavy and when applied to morality, grievous. The wrath of a fool is irrational and extreme. “Wrath is cruel and anger is outrageous,†but envy, or jealousy is more voracious than the simpler wicked urges of wrath and anger. Verses 5 and 6 state secret love that is not demonstrated in action is useless. This is true even if its profession and display reprimands us with wounds. This love is superior to the frequent, and therefore, deceitful kisses of an enemy. Verse 7 figuratively illustrate the luxury of wealth (the full soul) confers less happiness (loathful), than the healthy appetite of labor (hungry soul) to whom everything is bitter sweet (joy). The next verse is symbolically explaining that when we are out of place, we are not only out of our calling, but in danger. The heart is the organ usually associated with our emotions; therefore, being in the guidance of wise men will make the heart rejoice. Verse 10 regards the value of friendship. Stick with the tried and true friends you have. At times, the ties of blood and family are less reliable than those of genuine friendship. Ultimately, we are all brothers and sisters in the Lord’s family. The wisdom of a child shows just credit to their parents and aids the children in their troubles. A wise man will have the foresight and sensibility to anticipate evil and avoid it. The simple will tread into its path and will be chastised. Unwarranted enthusiasm in praising promotes doubts of selfishness. Verse 15 contentions of a wife are a continual dropping, just as a day of showers continually drops. Whoever tries to restrain her, their efforts are fruitless, and are compared to trying to hold the wind. The right hand is an organ of power. His right hand attempts to suppress fragrance, but it is in vain. Or, his right hand comes on oil, which means he cannot take hold, both referring to a woman that cannot be tamed. Verse 17 advises that conversation promotes intellect, which the face will display. Verse 18 symbolizes the lesson that persistence secures a reward, even for the humble servant. Verse 19 instructs us that we may see our personalities in the established tempers of others. Verse 20 is telling us that man's greediness, covetousness and materialism are as insatiable as the grave. Praise will test a man’s character, according to his praise, as he bears it. For example, futile men pursue it, weak men are inflated by it and wise men ignore it. Verse 22 states the stubborn wickedness of such is irredeemable by the heaviest afflictions. In verses 23 and 25, flocks constitute wealth. It is only by attention and persistence that the most solid assets can be preserved. In verses 25 – 27, the fact that preordained arrangements furnish the means of capability to those who properly use them is another motive to persistence. Hay literally means “grass appeareath,†household literally means the “house and the family.â€

Do not boast yourself of tomorrow. 27.1 It is so true or our lives that are like smoke, like the clouds stays for a moment and then it dissapears forever. So is our lives. We do not know of tomorrow. Our lives are in a borrowed time and only God knows the future. So let us not say that we have this car, this house, this boat or anything in this world. All it is Gods and belongs only to HIm. If tomorrow we will die... we will not take anything with us to eternity. Let us set our eyes on Jesus the author and finisher of our faith. ONLY HE WILL TAKE US TO GLORY TO BE WITH HIM FOR EVER. Amen

I too have screwed up in college and was failing three subjects but God has saved all trouble from me and my life was changed when they gave me another chance at the test specially the state tests that are so hard to do it. Do not boast of tomorrow... we should never boast of anything in this world except in the lord Jesus. Oh I got into the best univesity this world can offer and now I am on my way to riches and glory. What a fantasy. What a boast. God is the maker of our life and our days are counted by Him Thank Him and praise Him every single day of your life and you will feel a lot better. I promise. It will really happen.

On the darkness hour of Jesus life He entered into a communion with God the Father. Thy will shall be done and not mine. He said. Thinking about the suffering and crucifixion. He agonized in prayer in the garden. How many of us do this for others? Let us follow the example of Jesus suffering and pain. He was doing all of this for our sins and our salvation. He endured humilliation and forsakeness because of our iniquities. Dear Jesus, forgive us our sins because they are many. You have suffered so much for us. And we thank you. We adore your holy name.. Because of your mercy and compassion on all of us. He speaks to me through His wordl. My son, be wise, make my heart glad. 27.11 How can I make your heart glad? I asked. By loving your neighbor as your self. By feeding the hungry. Clothe the naked. Visit the sick at their bedside. And tell the prisoner about Me. Jesus my Jesus. we can see you in the small things we do in our lives. And we promise to do our best for you. To honor your holy name and to tell others about salvation that comes through suffering on the cross. Thank you so much for such a wonderful thing you have done for all of us. Amen

We praise and glorify your holy name lord Jesus, because You carried a heavy cross for us. All our sins in your back and there was none to help. You only heard the weeping women who were sorry for You and not themselves. Women of Jerusalem... weep not for me.. weep for yourselves and for your children. You told them. Your heart of mercy and compassion was seeing by all. I am so grateful for what you have done for me and the whole humanity. 27.5 Better is an open rebuke, Than love that is hidden. Sweet Jesus, please rebuke me when I am wrong, show me the way of truth. Because in You alone there is peace and joy evermore. We adore you and praise your holy name. For all the wonders of your hand had made. Certainly, you are my protector and strenght. We thank you for everything. Amen
